    CLASSIFICATION SPECIFICATION

    CLASS SUMMARY:
    • In coordination with the Campus Instructional Leadership Team manages and coordinates ASDB's athletic activities and sports programs to promote athletics and physical fitness as positive extracurricular activities, and to ensure that all students have an equal opportunity to participate and share in the benefits of the athletic programs.
    • Oversees the planning of athletic events. Makes periodic observation and evaluation of athletic events and coaching staff. Recruits coaching and event staff, both paid and volunteers, to support the ancillary activities occurring prior to, during and after sporting events. Develops, recommends, and executes departmental rules and policies in accordance with AIA and ASDB, as well as Federal, Local, State authorities.
    • The Athletic Programs Manager may be responsible to act as Head Coach for at least one sport per semester (Most Districts have the Athletic Department Head serve as Head coach on at least one sport) If a head coaching position becomes vacant during the athletic season and a replacement is not found, the Athletic Programs Manager will act as the head coach for the remainder of the season. In addition, this position is not allowed to hold any secondary position funded by the athletic department.
    • Supervises the school's athletic facilities, oversees the scheduling and coordinating of practices and athletic events, event communications. Maintains professional relationships with media sources for communications regarding schedules, postponements or cancellations, sporting event statistics, records, and other relevant information.
    • Serves as ASDB's representative and liaison to interscholastic league, the AIA., Booster Club and other sports-related groups as needed. Assists in ensuring that all applicable laws and regulations relating to athletics are applied and followed, including Title IX and other federal laws and regulations, state laws and regulations, and AIA. rules and regulations. Consults with Principals and Assistant Superintendents to recommend policies and procedures relating to athletic programs
    • As Campus Lead during off our events ensures safe activities and environments for student athletes and visitors.
    • Both day and overnight travel are required.
    TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
    • Bachelor's Degree required in Sports Management, Educational Administration,
      Physical Education or Deaf/VI Education.
    • 3 yrs experience in the role and responsibilities of developing and supervising a
      school's athletic and/or activities programs and staff
    • 3 yrs relevant coaching experience
    • State rules/regulations governing Physical Education, Arizona Interscholastic Association
    • Theories and procedures for coaching
    • NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching and Concussion
    • CPR/First Aid
    • Crisis Intervention Training
    LICENSING/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
    • Must be able to pass FBI and State background check or Fingerprint Clearance Card as position requires by policy or Statute
    • Defensive Driver Training Program to be completed by all agency personnel that drive on State business
    • Arizona Department of Education certification in Athletic Coaching Or Certification in Coaching with AIA
    • Ability to drive larger vehicles such as a Wave or larger passenger van
    KNOWLEDGE OF:
    • Knowledge of athletics, athletic programs, and physical fitness.
    • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws and regulations regarding school
      district athletic programs, safety and health, and other areas under responsibility.
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
    • Knowledge of building cooperative working relationships with others
      contacted in the course of work.
    • Knowledge of effective coaching for skill development for student athletes
    DEMONSTRATED SKILL/ABILITY TO:
    Ability to understand, apply and use personal computers and software applications
    (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint,Google).
    Ability to evaluate, develop and implement athletic programs, activities and events,
    and make effective recommendations related to those areas.
    Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others
    contacted in the course of work.
    Ability to organize multiple tasks and conflicting time constraints.
    Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to leadership, performance and
    professional growth.
