Notice to candidates:
This positions main post of duty will be located at one of the following Fleet shop locations: Florence (main shop), Casa Grande (satellite shop) or Apache Junction (satellite shop).
JOB SUMMARY
Perform skilled preventive maintenance, repairs and adjustments on County Fleet vehicles, in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures under basic supervision.

TYPICAL CLASSIFICATION ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Perform skilled vehicle and equipment maintenance for the Fleet Services Department (FSD) within scope of authority and in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.
  • Inspect and diagnose mechanical and electrical problems on County automobiles, trucks, and specialty vehicles, determine extent of necessary repairs, and prioritize work tasks.
  • Diagnose, repair, and overhaul vehicle engines, transmissions, power trains, braking, and steering; and use technical manuals and computer equipment to diagnose and correct vehicle problems and faults.
  • Diagnose and repair component systems for electrical, electronics, fuel supply, hydraulics, and cooling systems.
  • Transport equipment from the field to the repair facility and perform emergency repairs in the field as required.
  • Review status of vehicles and performs safety inspections, identify and report vehicle problems requiring additional maintenance and repair, and notify supervisors of major repair problems.
  • Install and test auxiliary and specialized equipment.
  • May perform arc and acetylene welding, fabricate and modify metal components, and perform body repairs.
  • Maintain work orders, records, and logs of services performed and general vehicle information, report any operational problems to the supervisor in a timely manner, and complete other reports as required.
  • Perform routine shop facility maintenance, clean work areas and pick up debris, and dispose of lubricants and chemicals in accordance with FSD safety regulations and procedures.
  • Control work site to assure that safety rules and regulations are followed and recognize, avoid, and report safety hazards, equipment problems, repair needs, security issues, and emergency situations.
  • Maintain proficiency with fleet management & maintenance system software and other systems as required by the job.
  • May assist FSD Heavy Equipment Mechanics with repair projects as requested.
  • Maintain absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, customer records, and restricted County information.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Three (3) years of work experience in vehicle maintenance and repairs.
  • Valid Driver's License with Arizona Driver's License within 30 days of hire.
  • Or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience may substitute for the minimum requirement.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Technical certifications from National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) may be required.
Supplemental Information

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of methods, tools, and equipment used in the repair of vehicles, equipment, and components.
  • Knowledge of gasoline & diesel engines, power trains, and hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of Federal, state, and FSD safety rules and regulations, occupational hazards, and safety precautions.
  • Knowledge of county geography, traffic patterns, streets, landmarks, and facility locations.
  • Knowledge of proper use and storage of hazardous chemicals used in the workplace.
  • Knowledge of environmentally responsible and resource-efficient maintenance techniques.
  • Skill in inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing mechanical problems in a wide variety of vehicles and equipment.
  • Knowledge of Fleet Management Software Systems.
  • Skill in identifying maintenance needs and mechanical problems and taking corrective actions.
  • Skill in performing computerized diagnostic tests and fine calibrations on vehicle components and equipment.
  • Skill in welding, metal fabricating, and adapting parts and tools to specific repairs.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and specifications.
  • Ability to follow and maintain safety standards and identify safety problems.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work is medium and requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The work also requires the ability to climb, crawl, crouch, feel, finger, grasp, handle, kneel, lift, pull, push, reach, perform repetitive motion, speak, hear, stand, stoop, walk, operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment, and demonstrate visual and mental acuity.

Work is performed in a safe and secure work environment that may periodically have unpredicted requirements or demands.
