JOB SUMMARY
Incumbents in this classification perform duties preparing for court proceedings and perform duties in the courtroom at the direction of the judge. This is an at-will classification.
Example of Duties

Work in this classification requires an individual to be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily. TYPICAL CLASSIFICATION ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Prepares the courtroom for the days cases.
  • Assures all parties involved in the proceedings are present.
  • Maintains order in the courtroom at all times during the sessions of the court.
  • Maintains integrity of the court process and insures that no outside person makes any communication while in deliberation.
  • Escorts jurors and witnesses to and from the courtroom.
  • Tends to all the needs of the jury, answers all non-legal questions, and provides all possible assistance.
  • Contacts by telephone all those required in the court session, such as attorneys and witnesses.
  • Calls jurors by telephone to appear for jury duty at the next day's session.
  • May perform general clerical activities.
  • Maintain absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, customer records, and restricted County information.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • One (1) year clerical experience.
  • Valid Arizona State Driver's License is required at time of hire.
  • Or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience may substitute for the minimum requirements.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of court procedures, office procedures and practices.
  • Knowledge of how to prepare, file, and maintain reports and records.
  • Knowledge of legal terminology.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to answer questions regarding court proceedings, confront members of the public who become agitated, and respond firmly and tactfully in stressful situations.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with judicial staff and the public.
  • Ability in proper use of radio communication equipment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Independent body mobility to stand, walk, bend, and sit for prolonged periods of time. Manual dexterity to reach, and grasp; manual dexterity to hand write or use computer keyboard; vision sufficient to see and read; hear and speak to communicate with customers in person and over the phone. The ability to lift, unload, push and carry small to large to and from various locations throughout the Court. May be required to lift up to 25 lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Office and/or courtroom setting. Will be required to work with individuals that may be resistant, antagonistic, and/or hostile.
