  • Expanded hours will allow previously cancelled procedures to be scheduled as quickly as possible.

  • Emergency Departments are reorganized to be a safe place to treat all emergency patients.

JOB SUMMARY:

This position evaluates psychiatric patients in the Emergency Department and makes recommendations to the Emergency Department Physician as to the disposition of those patients. Consults with attending psychiatrists as needed.

This position also evaluates patients throughout the organization, as requested or urgently, who are in need of mental health assessments.

This position facilitates or recommends appropriate referrals or preventative services, treatment and support for populations with alcohol, drugs and/or substance abuse.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

SERVICE

Consistently supports and communicates the Mission, Vision, and Values of St. Joseph Medical Center. Upholds the Standards of Conduct and Corporate Compliance. Performs face-to-face private, confidential interviews with patients to assess the needs of patients from referrals directed by the Emergency Department physicians/staff;

Provides individualized counseling as needed. Documents to the patient's confidential medical record in accordance with HIPPA, industry, and compliance standards;

Makes referrals to community agencies when appropriate. Completes mental health assessments as requested in the medical units throughout the organization; Responds to all emergent situations: Code BERT or GREEN;

Other duties as assigned.

PEOPLE

Incorporates the patients physiological, psychological, cultural, developmental and spiritual needs into the plan of care; Directs support personnel in implementing patients plan of care; Collaborates with inter and intra professional colleagues to ensure quality outcomes; Provides education/consultation as needed; Participates in team and or departmental meetings and activities; Respects hospital diversity.

QUALITY

Completes annual education requirements; Maintains competencies relevant to position; Promotes a culture of patient safety which results in the identification and reduction of unsafe practices; Performs analysis and report of various metrics as requested; Actively maintains a valid license to practice behavioral health independently in the state of Texas.

GROWTH

Maintains competency and knowledge of current standards of practice, trends, and developments.

FINANCE

Promotes stewardship of hospital resources while ensuring quality patient care.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Skilled in the assessment, diagnosis, and disposition of Behavioral Health patients;
  • Knowledgeable about services available to Behavioral Health patients;
  • Computer skills are essential;
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English.

Education: Masters degree (MA, MS, MSW) or Doctorate in Psychology or Social Work.

Experience (Type & Length): 1-2 years direct experience required.

LICENSE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION:

Certification/Licensure: Licensure at the independent level in the state of Texas; Licensed Psychologists, Licensed Clinical Social Workers, (LCSW) or Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC) are encouraged to apply.
