Characteristics of Position:

This Behavioral health TechnicianSpecialist, located in Ft. Lauderdale FL., is a FULL TIME position.One of 3 shifts, 7:00 am-3:00 pm, 3:00 pm-11:00 pm. or 11:00 pm- 7:00 am. Thisis a Residential Program for girls ages 12-17 years of age.

The Behavioral Health Technician Specialistwill provide direct, client centered services to girls, assigned to thedependency (foster care) and/or delinquency systems. The BHT Specialist willmonitor the daily activities of the youth while supporting the delivery ofgroups and activities related to life skills, independent living and socialrehabilitation.

$13.00 per hour plusshift diff.

LOCATION: Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

Pre-requisite Requirements:

      • 60 college credit hours with 30 hours concentration in a human services field.
      • Florida Certification for Behavioral Health Technician (CBHT) may substitute for the above requirement.

Supervision: Position reports to the Program/Shift Supervisor as directed anddoes not provide supervision to others.

Scope of Responsibilities:

Adheres to agency model and documentation for admissions, treatingpersons with co-occurring disorders and orientation. Carries out tasksassociated with laundry, a clean living environment, and ensuressafety of clients receiving services.

Core Responsibilities/Essential Functions

  • Demonstrates a general knowledge of program professional plan, program policies and procedures. Performs and documents pre-admission searches, and informs designated personnel of bruises, etc. and searches clients? property for contraband. Makes frequent rounds of facility to ensure adequate safeguards and client safety are maintained. Facilitates/complies with emergency preparedness? monthly mock scenario emergency drills.
  • Communicates regularly with clients, co-workers/shift supervisors and others as appropriate, and engages clients to talk about their mental illness and substance misuse. Observes clients for changes in behavior, monitors activities of clients, motivates clients to participate in activities, and also guides and advises clients in their personal adjustment utilizing verbal de-escalation techniques. Interprets the client handbook for clients as needed; applies applicable rules and regulations to clients.
  • Assists clients in preparing for court appearances or other outside activities, and implements supportive, psycho-educational and recreational groups. Advises and guides clients on personal hygiene habits. Monitors and tracks compliance with self-administered medication process if instructed. Oversees collection of urine specimen for drug screens and may complete and record vital signs as assigned. Assists clients in gathering/obtaining personal property when discharged.
  • Documents individual contacts, daily case notes, incident and injury reports and grievances. Answers phones and provides other administrative support as needed. Builds new case files and breaks down discharged client case files.
  • Performs related work as required /assigned

  • Advises and guides clients on personal hygiene habits.
  • Monitors and tracks compliance with self-administered medication process.
  • May complete and record vital signs and oversees collection of urine specimen for drug screens.
  • Assists clients in gathering/obtaining personal property when discharged.

  • Participates in treatment team and staff meetings

  • May be responsible for planning, preparation and clean up of client meal services
  • Facilitates/complies with emergency preparedness, including monthly mock scenario emergency drills.
  • Performs related work as required /assigned.

Special Pre-requisite Requirements: CBHT

PROGRAM SPECIFIC: The program includes the followingduties and responsibilities for this position:

  • Uses comprehensive knowledge of BHT essential functions to perform Specialist responsibilities by supporting BHTs as a resource. May carry out any/all duties assigned to Behavioral Health Technicians, including providing program shift coverage as required.
  • Assists with program orientation and facilitates training of BHT's to their job responsibilities
  • Guides, coaches and advises BHT in their assigned tasks
  • Provides guidance to other staff regarding coordination of client services
  • Specialist provides skilled administrative clerical support and assists with orientation and training for Behavioral Health Technicians in a residential facility
  • Ensures more administrative support and program compliance with the activity schedule.
  • May attend clinical staff and treatment meetings; co-facilitates staff meetings
  • Maintains and organizes client case files
  • Assists with care in delivering direct care for those with substance disorders or with co-occurring substance and psychiatric disorders
  • Provides admission/orientation to residents and their families and completes all applicable documentation.
  • Provides individual and group counseling/mentoring services
  • Assists in ordering and maintaining inventory, materials and supplies

Specialized Duties/ Tasks

  • Must possess valid Florida Drivers' License, industry accepted driving history and maintain vehicle insurance required by State of Florida. If required to drive an ACTS' vehicle, must maintain drivers' license and history as listed above and participate in all transportation-related training activities, including on-the-road driving test relative to appropriate and safe operation of motor vehicles.
  • Responsible for upkeep and maintenance schedule for vehicles compliant to DOT, and monthly completion of agency vehicle mileage logs
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with food service delivery
  • May enter data related to service billing and census rosters
  • Organizes and requisitions funds related to youth off-campus activities
