PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

The Bus Aide is responsible for assisting the Bus Driver/Facilities
Custodian to ensure children observe CPLC Early Childhood Development (ECD) safety
rules and regulation while traveling on the school bus. Provide educational
activities which will complement the childrens classroom education. Provide clear
and appropriate directives to children regarding conduct and safety on the
school bus. Promoting
school readiness by preparing children and families for school and life success
as it relates to this position. Actively
supervise children by sight and sound at all times and in all environments. Maintain all health and safety regulations to
create an optimum learning environment. Facilitate health practices to keep children safe in the school bus,

SPECIALIZATIONS

Initial employment
physical, TB test or Chest X-ray, and Tdap vaccination is required. Must pass a
criminal background check to include a Child Abuse and Neglect register check
and obtain a Level One Fingerprint Clearance card. Must be First Aid and CPR
certified or obtain certification within the first 6 months of employment. Applicant
must obtain Food Handlers card upon hire and maintain card with a current
status.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma/GED is required; however, CDA is preferred. Applicant must have
at least six months experience and/or training with children ages 0-5 is
preferred. Good communication skills both written and verbal. Ability to follow
through on assigned tasks. Relate positively and clearly with children,
parents, volunteers, and staff. Demonstrate
basic computer literacy and skills. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
A valid AZ Drivers License free of
restrictions is preferred.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND COMPETENCIES

  • Assist children with the use of child restraint
    systems, and ensure bus rules are followed; ensure children are seated with
    arms, legs and heads in side school bus window.
  • Initiate quiet verbal games, which will complement
    the childrens classroom education.
  • Handle discipline problems immediately and
    appropriately. Yelling, threatening promises and verbal abuse are prohibited.
  • Report, in writing, any and all inappropriate behavior
    of children to the Center Service Manager.
  • Ensure all conversation directed to the Bus Driver/Facilities
    Custodian is kept to a minimum.
  • Responsible for maintaining good relationships
    and communications with parents and CPLC ECD staff.
  • Be a good language model for children by using
    correct grammar, voice level, clear speech, and responsive conversation with
    children in their language of preferred use.
  • Must be able to handle any emergency situation in a calm and professional manner.
  • Understand and adhere to policies and procedures
    related to CPR, First Aid, Dental Emergencies, and Accident Reporting.
  • Understand and adhere to the ECD Transportation
    Content Area Plans & Procedures.
  • Participate in ECD annual pre-service training, planning
    meetings, and other trainings.
  • Report child absences directly to teaching staff.
  • Call parents to check on absent children and
    fill out absentee reports when no communication has been made directly to the
    center (if designated to do so).
  • Review and update all child emergency
    information cards in coordination with Family Service Engagement Workers, Family
    Service Engagement Worker Floater Teacher, and Teachers.
  • Complete any required paperwork documentation
    related to transportation, e.g., daily sign-in and sign-out checklist.
  • Ensure children are only released to authorized
    individuals as indicated on the childs Emergency Information Immunization Record
    (EIIR).
  • Ensure the delivery of written communications to
    parents (permission slips, newsletters, etc.).
  • Participate and assist the Bus Driver/Facilities
    Custodian in conducting bus evacuation drills.
  • Demonstrate awareness and sensitivity to
    cultural issues and community practices of low income and at risk families,
    including dual language speakers.
  • Escort children across intersections and roads
    to ensure safety.
  • Perform other duties as requested by immediate
    supervisor necessary to carry out the administrative/programmatic activities
    necessary to fulfill the goals and objectives of CPLC ECD.
  • Must work flexible hours based on split school schedule (i.e. M-F, 6:30 am - 11:00 am & 12:30 pm - 4:00 pm).

be able to travel (in state/out of state) as needed.

ACCOUNTABILITY

Reports
to and is supervised directly by the Center Service Manager. Employee is also accountable for understanding
and complying with CPLC policies and procedures.
