Overview

Under the direction of the Senior Director of Non-Clinical Drug Development and with limited direction, the Business Development Manager will be responsible for sales and marketing support for the Lovelace brand as it works to expand its efforts as a Contract Research Organization.

The Business Development Manager will work to uncover and cultivate business opportunities to generate revenue predominately via contact with potential and existing clients. They will also assist with follow-up on critical issues to complete quotes and promote positive customer experiences. The primary focus areas will be to assist in identifying, stewarding and securing business opportunities in chemistry, bioanalysis, toxicology, pharmacology, medicinal chemistry, ADME/PK, program management services, and all other related Lovelace research areas as directed by Lovelace Leadership, and perform all other related duties and tasks as required or assigned.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist in business development efforts as defined by annual and quarterly business development strategy to grow revenue.
  • Support Marketing, Sales and SMEs to analyze the market, identify opportunities and industry trends
  • Prospect for new accounts and business that would benefit from Lovelace services by geography, service platform or stage of growth.
  • Present existing services to potential and existing clients, primarily through email, phone, skype and/or web meetings.
  • Engage with clients to provide and follow up with proposals, including disseminating information internally, following up with clients and taking necessary steps to facilitate close.
  • Coordinate timely visits to well-qualified prospective or current accounts for the sales team
  • Support marketing efforts, including generating content, developing collateral, coordinating e-blasts, social media, etc.
  • Track all efforts on salesforce.com; assist with database management and business analytic reporting (designing / running reports; developing dashboards, etc.).
  • Attend trade shows and sales meetings as required.
Qualifications

Requires a bachelors degree in a related discipline, and 5+ years of directly related experience in comparable sales/business development positions; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained.

Must have demonstrated experience building relationships with clients, and demonstrated success rate in supporting business development activities as evidence by closed research agreements and contracts. Life science or preclinical research experience along with successful project management, client support, sales, territory management or business development experience preferred.

Requires a fundamental understanding of the drug development process and pharmaceutical / biotechnology marketplace, of the preclinical CRO industry, and previous demonstrated experience with SalesForce or a similar Client Relationship Management tool.

Must have superior professional-level written and verbal communication skills; a high degree of professionalism, excellent judgment, problem-solving and decision-making skills. Demonstrated ability in managing a wide variety of complex tasks and projects simultaneously while meeting multiple deadlines is required. Must have the ability to work independently and as a part of a team.

Requires professional-level computer proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Acrobat and Salesforce.com (or similar), and must have the ability to learn department-specific computer systems as needed.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

Previous experience and / or training with Sandler selling system.

Physical Requirements

Work is performed in an office environment. Will operate standard office equipment and will frequently stand, walk, sit, perform desk-based computer tasks, use a telephone, perform repetitive motions and occasionally lift objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
