Definition

Under general supervision from the Social Services Manager (CPS), performs professional social casework services in the Child Protective Services (CPS) program within the Social Services Department. Ensures quality, effective and efficient social services are provided to clients with a focus on Child Protective Services. This job class is treated as FLSA Non-Exempt.

Distinguishing Features : The Case Aide job class requires a basic understanding of child welfare and court declared dependency.

Essential Functions: Essential functions may vary among positions and may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics. This list of tasks is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and is not intended to be a comprehensive listing of tasks performed by all positions in this classification.

Examples of Tasks

1. Provides case management assistance to case managers.

2. Provides case management assistance to participants involved in CPS.

3. Makes home visits or visits to other settings to evaluate circumstances of abuse and neglect.

4. Escorts and transports children and adults to and from their homes, foster homes, treatment centers and various medical, dental, psychological, education, counseling, employment or recreational resources.

5. Supervises visits between the children and their parents, guardians and/or relatives.

6. Provides clerical support as needed.

7. Inputs data into the Management Accountability Information System (MAISE) and maintains accurate statistical data using the computerized database for easy retrieval.
  • Maintains current and comprehensive case files that includes assessments, case plans and other case file documentation.
  • Prepares periodic reports from records as required.


8. Participates in training opportunities that enhance professional knowledge of tribal case management, child abuse and neglect.

9. Participates in staff meetings and discusses issues and cases that require additional input and planning.
  • Provides alternative solutions to issues to ensure the greatest benefit for the clients in accomplishing the program objectives.


10. Performs other job-related duties as assigned to maintain and enhance departmental and program operations.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics:
  • Knowledge of the history, culture, laws, rules, customs and traditions of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State and Community laws, rules, regulations and standards that apply to public social service programs.
  • Knowledge of Social Services Child Welfare policies, practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of case management techniques and practices as well as crisis intervention methods.
  • Knowledge of social work principles and concepts.
  • Knowledge of social work methods and techniques, including group and individual counseling, crisis intervention, and referrals.


  • Skill counseling individuals, families and other groups.
  • Skill with case management including planning, scheduling and time management.
  • Skill establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with clients, other social work professionals, SRPMIC co-workers and Community officials.
  • Skill evaluating customer needs and utilizing SRPMIC resources or other appropriate referrals to meet client needs.
  • Skill dealing with sensitive and confidential personal issues and maintaining appropriate professional, confidential relationships.
  • Skill using the personal computer and related software including MS Office.


  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to make home visits and provide alternative solutions in order to meet client needs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain accurate record-keeping systems and procedures including computerized record-keeping.
  • Ability to use standard office equipment such as facsimile, copier machine and calculator.
  • Ability to drive various SRPMIC vehicles.
  • Ability to work with a variety of staff members in a team approach to service delivery.
  • Ability to work under pressure with multiple task deadlines.
  • Ability to work rotating on-call schedule and possibly an alternative work schedule.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Education & Experience: Graduation from High School or a GED equivalent is required.
  • For enrolled Community members without a GED, must obtain a GED. Requires participation in the HR GED Program and successful completion of the Arizona state certified exam in order to continue employment with SRPMIC.
  • One (1) year full-time professional level experience in Social Services, Behavioral Health Services or other closely related Human Services field required.

  • Equivalency: Any equivalent combination of experience and education that will allow the applicant to satisfactorily perform the duties of this position, will be considered.


  • Underfill Eligibility: An enrolled Community Member whom closely qualifies for the minimum qualifications for a position may be considered for employment under SRPMIC Policy 2-19, Underfill.


Special Requirements

  • May be required to work beyond normal work hours including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • May be required to work alternate shifts, based on assignment.
  • Due to the confidential and sensitive nature of this position, successful completion of an extensive background investigation is required.
  • May require occasional travel.
  • Employees in, and applicants applying for, jobs providing direct services to children are subject to the "Community Code of Ordinances", Chapter 11, "Minors", Article X. "Investigation of Persons Working With Children".
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver's License.
