DEFINITION

Under direct supervision, this position will coordinate, monitor, coach and train for the implementation of the Child Care Partnership Grant, Head Start and Early Head Start Performance Standards for assigned centers and assigned program options. The incumbent will model, consult and provide guidance and resources to classroom staff and will participate in building systems that provide staff with resources and support.

  • Supports the Head Start/ Early Head Start philosophy that promotes and values parent participation and individualization of children in a classroom setting, Supports the Agency developed School Readiness Goals as well as MAAC and CDP vision and mission.
  • Responsible for ongoing monitoring and the implementation of the early childhood development (ECD) service area at the center level and maintaining that ECD systems are in compliance.
  • Using approved assessment tools and monitoring checklists, observes assigned classrooms for compliance with current education policies and procedures, State licensing regulations and Head Start Performance Standards.
  • Serves as a mentor and coach by observing and assessing classroom activities; provides on-the-job guidance, training and technical assistance in order to improve the skills and interactions of education and classroom staff to improve child outcomes toward Kindergarten readiness and to improve the effectiveness of teacher/ child interactions.
  • In consultation with EHS CCP Coordinator, recommends and/or provides on-site training and technical assistance on comprehensive EHS service delivery to Center Directors and teaching staff on approved curriculum and assessment, including Creative Curriculum, Teaching Pyramid, CLASS, DRDP, ITERS, and others as applicable to program option.
  • Assists management in analyzing education data to plan, organize, and conduct professional development activities to groups of up to 100 participants.
  • Works in collaboration with EHS CCP Coordinator, Center Directors, teaching staff and other education staff to determine focus areas of coaching based on data analysis from CLASS observations, ITERS, DRDP assessments and ongoing observations and others as applicable to program option.
  • Prepares reports and other written materials as directed and communicates concerns and results with the teacher(s), Center Director, EHS CCP Coordinator and other appropriate MAAC staff..
  • Participates and contributes to planning/management activities, committees and meetings.
  • Attends monthly evening meetings, conferences, community meetings and/or training programs as required.
  • Communicates effectively with Child Development, Head Start/Early Head Start Managers and upper management to problem solve difficult issues.
  • Collaborates and maintains positive working relationships with fellow MAAC employees and with partner community organizations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATION

  • Bachelors degree with an emphasis in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or a closely related field including a minimum of thirty-two (32) ECE units
  • Three (3) years of work and/or teaching experience in an Early Childhood Education program setting including experience with CA State and Federal regulations related to Early Childhood Education that includes a minimum of one (1) year of experience utilizing mentoring and coaching principles and reflective practices with adult learners in a professional early childhood education program setting.
  • Site Supervisor Level Permit or obtain within six months of hire
  • Acquire CLASS Certifications within nine (9) months of hire and maintain certifications throughout employment.
  • Bilingual (English / Spanish) speaking, reading, and writing highly desirable
  • Demonstrated experience in utilizing computers and software, including but not limited to Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, the Internet and database software such as ChildPlus.

HEALTH STATUS

Must have a physical examination, TB clearance and a drug screen by a doctor/clinic designated by MAAC as well as immunization records for influenza*, pertussis and measles as required by state and federal regulations prior to the first day of employment.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this class, an employee is regularly required to stand, walk and sit, talk or hear both in person and by telephone, uses hands to finger, handle or feel objects or controls, reach with hands and arms. An employee also is regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch or crawl, climb or balance and lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Mental Demands

While performing the duties of this class, the employee is regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret information; analyze and solve problems; observe and interpret people and situations; use basic math; learn and apply new information or skills; work under intensive deadlines and interact with MAAC management, administrators, staff, teachers, parents, family members, children and others encountered in the course of work.

BACKGROUND CLEARANCE

All positions are subject to a background/education check, DMV check, NSOR, exclusion and debarment checks prior to hire and periodically throughout employment as required by various funding sources.

Note: California Start law requires background criminal checks on anyone who works in a licensed childcare facility who is not a client. Must have or obtain a current criminal background check clearance, signed criminal record statement, and signed Acknowledgement to Report Child Abuse form prior to the first day of employment.

TRANSPORTATION

Must have and maintain a valid California Drivers License, daily use of a personal, insured vehicle, and have and maintain a motor vehicle driving record acceptable to MAACs insurance carrier. Incumbents will be enrolled in the California DMV Pull Program.
