Job Description

Our skilled nursing facility is seeking an Occupational Therapy Assistant to administer the treatment program outlined by the licensed Occupational Therapist and contribute to all group programs provided by the therapy department while ensuring compliance with all state and federal regulations. To ensure we provide quality care to patient, you will also participate in occasional meetings and conferences, utilization review, and location-specific training programs. The ideal candidate can work effectively under the supervision of the Occupational Therapist to carry out the individualized patient care plan. For this position, we need a team player that is self-motivated, willing to work with people of all ages and deliver consistent, high-quality resident care.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Verifies occupational therapy patient information by reviewing the patients chart.
  • Discuss with patient, caregivers and family members regarding treatment plan as indicated.
  • Complete all required clinical & billing documentation as indicated and submit in a timely manner.
  • Administer the prescribed Occupational Therapy program to restore and maintain maximum functions & present disability using the following techniques, such as:
    • Therapeutic exercises and activity for upper extremity function.
    • Therapeutic exercises and activity for sensory and perceptual skills.
    • Exercises and activity to improve coordination.
    • Instructions in self-care, including light hygiene, bathing, dressing, transfers, eating, homemaking, and instruction in leisure time activities, education in body mechanics, work simplification and joint protection.
  • Seek assistance from supervising licensed Occupational Therapist to obtain evaluation data outside Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant expertise.
  • Establish appropriate short and long-term goals within areas of treatment expertise for assigned patients, and select and adapt treatment techniques to meet established goals and meet individual patient needs.
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy occupational therapy environment by adhering to organization standards and policies, and to legal regulations; alerting others regarding potential concerns.
  • Improves occupational therapy job knowledge by attending training sessions; reading technical publications.
  • Contributes to occupational therapy and healthcare organization success by welcoming related, different, and new requests; helping others accomplish job results.
  • Adhere to company and federal regulations regarding privacy policies for patients

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate of an accredited school for Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTA) and a valid registered license for the state in which employed.
  • Basic computer and handheld device competency
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel
  • Excellent observation, verbal and written communication skills, problem-solving skills, and basic math skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills with strong focus on customer service.
  • Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Talking to others to convey information effectively.
  • Being aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do.
  • Actively looking for ways to help people.
  • Teaching others how to do something.
  • Proficient use of computers and Microsoft Office: Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Acute care, long-term care and/or rehabilitation experience, preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures, may include extensive reading and frequently operates a computer.
  • Frequently communicates with patients, staff, management, and clients. Must be able to professionally exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Must be able to withstand prolonged or considerable walking, standing, balancing, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, stooping, bending, kneeling, or crouching.
  • Must be able to complete a max assist patient transfer (75% employee, 25% patient) independently.
  • Must be able to otherwise position or transfer patients as well as supplies and equipment.
  • Heavy work, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
