Title IV-A Social Emotional Learning Specialist
(Social Worker/Counselor)
JOB GOAL:
To seek out and provide additional interventions that support current behavioral programs to ensure the emotional and physical safety of students. To serve the students whose social and emotional challenges and/or traumatic experiences interfere with their capacity to achieve success within an educational environment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Clinical Social Work (CSW), or Social Work (MSW) from an accredited college or university OR Masters in Counseling (M.A, M.S, M.Ed.) from a CACREP (Council for Accreditation of Counseling & Related Educational Programs) accredited program
- Experience in a school or urban setting preferred
- Possesses a clear understanding of the dynamics of poverty and its impact on children and families
- Knowledge and awareness of trauma informed environments, restorative practices, adverse child experiences (ACEs), school climate, school mental health frameworks (PBIS, MTSS), and social emotional learning concepts
- Demonstrates knowledge of and works effectively in a professional learning community
- Demonstrates ability in working with diverse populations (ELL, Special Education and Gifted)
- Participates in professional growth opportunities Evidence of strong interpersonal skills
- Demonstrates initiative and the ability to work effectively under time constraints
- Must have excellent communication skills
- Demonstrates the ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations
- Demonstrates the ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Must demonstrate an extremely high regard for confidential and sensitive information
- Must demonstrate flexibility, common sense, good judgment, and the ability to function well under stress
- Skill in operating a personal computer using a variety of software applications
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
REPORTS TO: Director of Social Emotional Learning
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to, the following:
- Provides information and acts as a liaison between the district, school, community, and families, including, but not limited to counseling referrals, home visits, and access to community resources
- Establishes a line of communication between the school and the home
- Supports the schools existing Tier 1 behavioral program
- Provides critical coaching and consultation to school staff to support the development of mindsets, systems, practices, interventions and partnerships needed to effectively develop a trauma-sensitive school
- Facilitates professional development for school staff and parents on social emotional learning, restorative practices, and strategies to support trauma-informed environments
- Provides guidance and collaborates with teachers and support staff on developing interventions to address students social and emotional needs
- Implements student interventions in collaboration with administrators, teachers, and parents
- Maintains student records and protects student confidentiality through complying with FERPA guidelines
- Works collaboratively and in partnership with the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support Team (MTSS), 504, Individual Education Plan (IEP) teams, parent/teacher conferences, and student information meetings
- Monitors social emotional progress when it impacts academic progress in alignment with state and district standards
- Develops and implements a guidance program that aligns with the Arizona School Counseling Program
- Delivers lessons and units (to all students) that have recognizable structure, effective instructional strategies utilizing research based materials, and time allocations for learning activities.
- Responds appropriately to student behavior
- Collaborates with parents/guardians and staff regarding the educational, personal, and social emotional development of students
- Assists student/family transition to the next educational experience
- Utilizes district resources and community behavioral health agencies to provide individual and/or family support related to social/emotional needs
- Demonstrates knowledge of the roles/responsibilities of community agencies
- Exhibits sensitivity, empathy, and acceptance necessary for problem solving
- Functions as a credible resource by offering a variety of options and strategies to support student success
- Participates in professional development to enhance knowledge and pedagogical skill
- Assesses crisis situations and responds appropriately to school and student needs
- Follows appropriate district procedures in emergency situations
- Must meet any additional specific job requirements as indicated by the school
- Performs other work-related duties as assigned
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Teacher Salary Schedule and fringe benefits as approved by the Governing Board.
