Major/Essential Functions
  • Develops and implements a vision for the Department of Radiology, and provides leadership of the department to enhance scholarship, education, clinical service, and academically-related public service
  • Enhances faculty recruitment, fosters faculty development, and promotes retention of qualified faculty
  • Operates the department in a fiscally prudent, transparent, and sustainable fashion
  • Serves as a mentor and role model for faculty, fellows, residents, staff, and students
  • Serves as the principal spokesperson for the academic programs of the department
  • Cultivates a reputation for excellence in undergraduate education and graduate medical training programs
  • Develops personal and professional credibility within the department, across the health sciences center, and within the community
  • Develops, maintains, and expands high-quality radiology services at the affiliated hospitals
  • Serves as clinical chief of radiology services at the University Medical Center El Paso
  • Ensures the department excels in financial performance, education, high-quality clinical services, scholarship, and collaborations with colleagues and partner institutions
  • Establishes governance mechanisms that ensure faculty and staff participation in the affairs of the department
  • Promotes communication and support of institutional initiatives to the faculty and staff of the department
  • Ensures compliance with all institutional, state, and federal regulations in each of the department's activities
  • Participates in teaching, scholarship, and clinical service
  • Ensures compliance with HIPAA and billing regulations and requirements
  • Adheres to institutional and departmental policies and procedures
  • Upholds and promote the values-based culture of TTUHSC El Paso
  • Demonstrates professionalism in accordance with the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine's Declaration of Faculty Professional Responsibility

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in business administration, healthcare administration, public administration, medical management, or equivalent administrative experience
  • Experience in leading an undergraduate medical education or a graduate medical education program
  • Experience in overseeing quality outcomes for clinical services
  • Experience in the development and implementation of new clinical services
  • Track record of leading a diverse body of faculty, staff, and learners
  • Experience in growing revenue, meeting budgets, assessing clinical and economic performance, and strengthening a department
  • Collaborative leadership skills to direct clinical, educational, and research programs of the department
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to relate well within and outside the department, including with senior leadership, clinical partners, and the community
  • Experience in recruiting, mentoring, developing, and retaining qualified faculty, staff, and fellows/residents
  • Experience in philanthropy pertinent to an academic department
  • Established national reputation for the rank of Professor

Required Qualifications
  • M.D. or 0.0. degree, or equivalent degree
  • Texas medical license, or eligibility for Texas medical licensure
  • Board certification by the American Board of Radiology
  • Qualified for faculty appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or higher
  • Leadership experience as a Department Chair, Vice-Chair, Division Chief, Medical Director, Program Director, or other comparable experience in an academic radiology department
  • Experience as an actively practicing clinician in an academic medical center
