Position Summary

The Department of Sciences at the University of New Mexico-Taos is conducting a search for a Lecturer in Chemistry. The successful candidate will be expected to assume a full teaching load (15 credit hours per semester with release time for Chem MaLL tutoring support, lab maintenance, or other duties as assigned) in Chemistry. The primary duties of this position will be to teach lower division Chemistry courses. The position may also include teaching to the dual credit population in our Friday Early College Program. If the successful candidate is credentialed to teach additional subjects, this will also be considered in the teaching load based on departmental need. This faculty member must be willing to try a variety of instructional approaches, commit to being part of a Professional Learning Community, as well as keep regular office hours each week, and other academic duties.

This position is funded by a federally funded grant. The Title V Cultivamos grant, recently awarded to UNM-Taos, has as its mission to expand educational opportunities in STEM fields to underserved student populations. The grant objective is to improve student learning and retention and to strengthen our students STEM foundations in order to enhance their ability to succeed in core transferable science classes.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Applicants must have a minimum of a Masters Degree in the discipline or subfield in which they are applying to teach. Applicant must have completed a program of study in the discipline or subfield in which they teach, with coursework at least one level above that of the courses being taught or developed (e.g., completed a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in the discipline or subfield in which they teach or tested experience that is determined to be equivalent to the degree).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Teaching experience in a post-secondary institution
  • Proficiency in teaching in a community college environment
  • Experience in curriculum innovation for diverse learning styles
  • Commitment to being part of a Professional Learning Community
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities
  • Demonstrated ability to work with students at a variety of academic levels
  • Experience in academic advising and mentoring, including working with student groups
  • Experience teaching High School and/or Dual Credit Students
  • PhD in Chemistry or related field
