GENERAL SUMMARY:

Directs the accounting function including accounting policies, general ledger operations, subsidiary accounting, tax accounting, accounts payable and reconciliation processes, documentation of all controls and activities in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, general practices of the banking industry and requirements of the Sarbanes Oxley Act. Assumes responsibility for higher level accruals (i.e. incentive compensation, allowance for loan loss provisioning, residential mortgage commitments and benefit plans accounting). Has primary responsibility for board, committee, public and regulatory reporting, and works closely with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and staff members to develop a range of management information, including departmental budgeting, financial forecasts and plan variance reports.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures complete/accurate financial, statistical, and accounting records of the bank and all affiliates.
  • Formulates and executes on Accounting policies, objectives and programs.
  • Provides interpretation and implementation of new accounting and tax reporting standards.
  • Works effectively with internal and external auditors/bank examiners and SEC Counsel, including preparing management responses to recommendations and observations.
  • Assists the CFO in matters of merger and acquisitions (M&A), statistical analysis and department administrative matters. Works with SEC counsel on M&A matters related to regulatory filings including pro-forma information and other ad hoc analysis.
  • Manages the monthly, quarterly and annual closing processes and related board, public and regulatory reporting.
  • Directs the daily operations of the department.
  • Hires, trains, directs, and evaluates employee performance within the department. Recommends promotions/transfers and salary adjustments.
  • Serves as Vice-Chair of the Disclosure Committee and Chair of Call Reporting Working Group.

Required Knowledge & Skills:

  • Thorough understanding of accounting and reporting requirements.
  • Thorough understanding of financial systems and capabilities.
  • Proficient in MS Office; advanced in Excel.

Required Experience
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Required Education/Experience:

  • Accounting Degree required.
  • CPA license required.
  • Ten years of progressive management responsibility in accounting and general ledger field in public accounting or a large publicly traded Bank.
  • Working knowledge of bank regulatory environments and reporting requirements.
