POSITION SUMMARY:

The Chief Legal Counsel is part of a Legal Services team that provides legal services and advice to the Chief Justice, the Administrative Director of the Courts, and other leadership of the Administrative Office of the Courts on legal issues related to the administration of justice in Arizonas courts.

This position supports the work of court committees as assigned by the Chief Justice and the Administrative Director, coordinates responses to litigation involving or affecting the Supreme Court including the selection of outside counsel and liaison with the Office of the Attorney General and outside counsel.

This position advises executive management, division directors, managers and court committee staff regarding drafting of administrative orders, policies, procedures, contracts, intergovernmental agreements, and leases.

This position recommends and drafts legislation proposed by the Judiciary and recommend changes in court rules, policies, procedure and practices needed to implement new legislation.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires a Juris Doctorate from an A.B.A accredited law school and membership in the State Bar of Arizona and at least ten years of experience as a member of the bar employed or retained by large public or private organization. This position also requires a thorough understanding of constitutional and statutory interpretation, knowledge of Arizona law, legal research and writing skills, oral and written advocacy skills, and project management skills.

The preferred candidate will have prior litigation or court administration and supervisory experience.

Infrequent travel to locations around the state to attend meetings and to conduct training as needed.
