JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Choral Conductor Status: Part Time-Hourly

Exemption Status: Non-Exempt Salary Grade: 29

Department/Location: Our Mother of Sorrows Parish / Tucson, AZ

Primary Function: Under the direction of the Liturgy & Music Director, is responsible for coordinating the liturgical music program for assigned liturgical celebrations. The Employee shall be a minister of the Gospel and Catholic Teaching both academically and behaviorally while at work and in his/her personal life, "Live in a manner worthy of the call you have received." (Eph. 4:1)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Recognize and support the unique Catholic Mission of the Diocese by speaking, acting, and instructing consistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. The employee may not espouse, in word or deed, any doctrine inconsistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
  • Give evidence of living Gospel values by being an active member of a faith community and being open to the importance of a personal faith journey; strive to model the teaching of Jesus by attitude and example.
  • Meet regularly with the Liturgy & Music Director to develop the liturgical music program for the parish including the formation of a choir and musical groups as necessary for liturgical celebrations.
  • Ensure that all liturgical musicians and choir members are well-versed in the liturgy of the Church and the propriety of their duties including an understanding of the rubrics of the Church.
  • Ensure that the liturgical music utilized is in accordance with the currently accepted practices of the Roman Catholic Church.
  • Meet regularly and maintain open communications with volunteer musicians and provide training as necessary.
  • Recruit and form musicians and choir members as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical/Mental Requirements: Requires coordination and manual dexterity, normal mental and visual ability; ability to lift as required in a normal music and office environment.

Required Activities: Walking, sitting, standing, stooping, reaching, talking, handling, hearing, carrying, and keyboarding.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Must have a working knowledge of and a strong commitment to the mission of the Diocese and Catholic Church; be in full communion with the Church.
  • Must have a working knowledge of the Liturgy of the Roman Catholic Church and traditions.
  • Excellent communications skills, verbal and written; excellent human relations and interpersonal skills.
  • Exercise courtesy to fellow employees, parishioners, and the public.
  • Must be a self-starter; well organized; perform multiple tasks simultaneously and work with a sense of urgency.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment; punctuality is always a must; ability to travel locally as required; weekend and overtime work may be required.
  • Proficiency in computer technology to include word-processing.
  • Professional bearing; clean and neat personal appearance.
  • Ability to successfully pass a background, criminal history, and credit history check.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent training in music
  • Experience in the preparation and celebration of liturgy of the Roman Catholic Church
  • 1-2 years' experience as a music minister or similar position
Other Skills:
  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
