Position Description
Employees in this classification provide patient care management to an assigned clinic in the areas of clerical and clinical duties. In clinical setting, the employee receives direct supervision from physician or nursing supervisor in either oral or written form. In office setting, the employee receives direct supervision from department administrator. Work is performed under usual office and clinic conditions. May be stressful when working under emergency conditions.

Major/Essential Functions
- Responsible for assisting physician with exams
- Responsible for receiving incoming calls from patients, pharmacies, or other agencies
- Responsible for implementing and Compiling daily and monthly clinical reports as needed
- Responsible for obtaining consults, lab, x-rays, etc. from UMC, or other agencies/hospitals as needed
- Responsible for obtaining referrals or authorizations
- Responsible for providing and participating in patient education
- Responsible for assisting and supporting Faculty, Managers and Supervisors in daily tasks
- Responsible for stocking and preparing exam room for next patient visit
- Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications
Education:
- A minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent
License/Certification:
- Graduation from an approved certified program for assistants in the area of required specialty
- Certification by an approved accredited certifying agency in the specialty that particular work will be performed
Position Specific Qualifications:
- Maintain CPR certification, documented completion of certification
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Good spelling and penmanship
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Knowledge of principles and applications of the ethics; legal requirements; and terminology within the area of specialty
- Familiarity with medical equipment, basic computer skills, some knowledge in EMR
- Manual dexterity necessary for clinical and laboratory procedures
- Willing to work a rotating shift, extended hours, evenings, TTUHSC Holidays, and occasionally on weekends
