Listed is the base hiring salary range offered for this position. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors, including but not limited to skills and experience. The salary range listed is just one component of the total rewards/compensation package offered to candidates.

Summary:
The Clinical Lactation Consultant demonstrates clinical expertise, professional judgment, and knowledge of the breastfeeding dyad; provides education and support to breastfeeding mothers and their families prenatally, post-partum, and outpatient; provides documentation, implementation modalities, and communication concerning the breastfeeding dyad for the M.D. and health care team; consults and researches for the nursing staff, physicians, and breastfeeding dyad; participates in specific outreach programs specific to Maternal Child Health.
Responsibilities:
Provides direct and indirect breastfeeding care; provides direct care to the patient who requires specialized lactation knowledge and expertise; responds to referrals by physicians, nursing personnel, and/or patients; assesses, plans, and executes care involving patient and family; performs evaluations and provides treatment in an ongoing, timely, and systematic manner, following standard format, and completed within the time specified by specialty standards; formulates a goal-directed prioritized inpatient developmental care plan or outpatient home program based on patient focus and expected patient outcome; makes daily routine rounds and provides individual assistance to those mothers experiencing breastfeeding problems; formulates and carries out a plan of care or home program (intervention) for each patient, based on essential needs and available resources of time, personnel, equipment and supplies according to specialty standards, hospital and departmental infection control policies/guidelines and carried out correctly; utilizes proper body mechanics; reports faulty equipment and safety hazards upon discovery to appropriate personnel.
Serves as a consultant in the management of breastfeeding patient; consults with physicians and nursing personnel regarding individual patient cases; responds to requests by physicians, nursing personnel and/or patient for consultations; maintains effective working relationship with physicians and nursing personnel; documents consultations concerning patients and communicates with physician and/or nursing regarding consult; ensures nursing care plan reflects continuity of breastfeeding support to patient.
Functions as a resource for other staff and other agencies; responds to requests of Assistant Manager, Director for information and assistance; offers assistance to public health nurse on those breastfeeding problems she experiences with her clients; provides lactation education to physicians, nursing, patients, and consumers; participates in prenatal and community education; provides prenatal breastfeeding classes as part of the Childbirth Education program if needed; assesses, implements and evaluates community education programs; provides outreach to physicians' office staff on available lactation services at YRMC.
Participates in prenatal and community education; teaches staff through role modeling when providing patient lactation support; provides individual educational assistance to all Maternal/Infant nursing staff; responsible for updating and standardizing literature and equipment for breastfeeding support, and recommendation are provided to Director; provides input into the development or revision of nursing guidelines and procedures; presents a favorable image of YRMC within our community.
Demonstrates an awareness of self-responsibility and accountability for own professional practice; validates knowledge base, skill level and decision making is sought as necessary and guidance in areas of question is assertively sought; requests by other employees or departments to act as a resource person are responded to professionally; remains current in policies, procedures, JCAHO, guidelines, procedures, and standards.
Responsible for formulation of the Lactation Services Quality Improvement Plan and conducting quality improvement activities in accordance with the quality improvement plan; actively participates in Quality Improvement program. Collects data for QA/AI and communicates with Director.
