Clinicians in Crisis Program, Licensed and License-Eligible

New Alternatives, Inc. (NAI) Emergency Screening Unit (ESU) is looking for dedicated clinicians. Primary responsibilities would include, but are not limited to, assessing youth to determine if they meet criteria for ESU intake, consulting with ESU MDs after assessment for disposition determination, reassessing youth that continue their stay(on average 12-48 hours) at ESU for clinically indicated reasons, case management with youth in need of services, engaging youth on crisis unit in stabilization activities & Safety Plans as needed, and some aftercare follow-up contacts with youth/families.

NAI is a large non-profit agency in San Diego and Orange County providing mental health services to the most vulnerable youth in the county. NAI operates residential programs, outpatient/crisis/behavioral programs, emergency/crisis programs, THP-TAY programs and foster family programs. The ESU is a county-contracted program under the parent company of New Alternatives, Inc (NAI), a non-profit agency with programs in San Diego and Orange County. ESU is an outpatient clinic with a CSU (Crisis Stabilization Unit) designation. ESU has been the only screening and assessment LPS facility for youth, in an acute psychiatric crisis, in the county since 1995.

ESU Clinicians (both licensed and registered interns):

Triage youth needing assessment and screening (either by crisis calls on the phone or youth in the lobby as voluntary)

  • Complete full assessment to identify needs: emotional functioning, conduct suicide risk assessments, assess for danger to self or others, history of psychiatric needs and hospitalizations; document in the ESU BHA using co-signatures of licensed staff if needed
  • Coordination of care with ESU Psychiatrists/Nurses to determine criteria for ESU intake to receive stabilization services
  • Collaborate with parents/caregivers, school officials, police/EMT, etc to gain critical information on emotional status of youth as it pertains to the crisis
  • Consult with parents/caregivers and treatment providers to plan for discharge from ESU
  • Conduct follow up with youth that discharge from ESU; these calls occur at 24 hours post discharge and 7-days post discharge

Candidates must be licensed in California as a LCSW, LPCC, or MFT or registered with the CA BBS as AMFT, APCC, or ACSW. Experience with youth in-crisis preferred. As a 24/7 program, the days/hours vary. The available shifts may include four 10-hour workdays. Weekend and overnight shifts available!!

Salary: $61,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year, depending on language abilities, licensure status and experience
