Join the Pima County Health Department as a Public Health Educator II and make a significant impact on our community's well-being! In these two grant-funded roles, ending September 30, 2026, you'll support the Division of Community Mental Health and Addiction, working closely with community members, coalition partners, agencies, schools, and families to advance crucial public health initiatives.

As part of our team, you'll report to the Community Mental Health and Addiction Program Coordinator, taking charge of planning, implementing, and developing engaging marketing and educational materials. You'll lead specific sections of the CMHA program, including community training, media and marketing efforts, and health education.

The roles will also involve managing grant-funded activities, ensuring deliverables are met, and bringing partners together to identify and address community needs in mental health, injury, and substance use. Were looking for two individuals with strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, who can juggle multiple projects with enthusiasm and a solution-focused approach. You'll be at the forefront of initiatives like suicide prevention, drug overdose prevention, mental health education, and trauma resiliency.

* Leads the development of comprehensive health education programs, curricula, and materials tailored to diverse populations and community needs;

* Collaborates with program coordinators and manager to design evidence-based educational content and strategies;

* Plans and facilitates health education sessions, workshops, and presentations in various community settings, ensuring that content aligns with program goals and objectives;

* Utilizes advanced teaching methods to engage participants, encourage behavior change, and promote health literacy;

* Creates, reviews, and updates educational resources, pamphlets, multimedia materials, and digital content;

* Cultivates and maintains relationships with community organizations, schools, healthcare providers, and local agencies to enhance health education program reach and effectiveness;

* Takes a lead role in community outreach, building awareness of public health issues, available resources, and healthy behaviors;

* Provides guidance and mentorship to junior health educators;

* Offers training and professional development opportunities to build capacity within the team;

* May supervise health education program staff.

Minimum Qualifications

(1) Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in health education, adult education, psychology, marketing or a related field AND one year of experience providing health education.

OR

(2) Three years of experience with Pima County as a Community Health Worker II, Public Health Navigator, or Public Health Educator I.

Preferred Qualifications: (Be specific in describing your experience in your application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies, specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.):

  1. Minimum two (2) years experience in public speaking, training facilitation, and/or leading group sessions.
  2. Minimum one (1) year professional experience with trauma-informed care, adverse childhood experiences, mental health, and/or substance use.
  3. Experience researching, developing, and evaluating health education materials.
  4. Experience in Microsoft Office products and video conferencing applications.
  5. Experience in oral and written communication.

Selection Procedure:

Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum/desired qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum/desired qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.

Supplemental Information

Licenses and Certificates: Valid driver license is required at time of application. Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicants suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services review and approval of the candidates driving record.

Special Notice Items: The County requires pre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County.
