Job Description

Facilities Development and Management FM Knowledge Enterprise Facilities Services seeks a motivated full time commercial/industrial Electrician to join the team to install, repair, and maintain electrical wiring and fixtures in various research buildings.

 

Salary Range

$25.30 per hour or commensurate of experience and education. ASU offers a comprehensive

Essential Duties

·        Read blueprints and schematics.

·        Install circuits and sub-distribution from 120-600 volts.

·        Install conduit, wire mold and cable raceways.

·        Perform general electrical repairs.

·        Repair and maintain conventional and addressable fire alarm systems.

·        Use hand tools (e.g. wire cutters, screw drivers, pliers, hammers, wrenches, sockets) and power tools (e.g. drills, reciprocating saws, hydraulic hole punches, hydraulic and electric conduit benders, cable pullers, voltage, amperage and cable testing meters).

·        Troubleshoot of emergency electrical systems (up to 600V) generators and automatic transfer switches. 

·        Install, troubleshoot and repair of 277v-480v systems and equipment. 

·        Operate forklift, scissor truck/manlift, hydraulic/electric/manual scaffolds.

·        Use dollies for loading and unloading materials. Assist other trades as needed. 

 

This position requires working a rotating on-call/stand-by schedule and may be called in for emergency response including nights, weekends, and holidays. Other duties as assigned. Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions. 

 

DAYS AND SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday, 7:30 am – 4:00 pm.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Six (6) years of progressively responsible journey level electrical experience; OR, completion of a four-year federally approved technical training program in electrical repair and maintenance and two (2) years electrical experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. Employee must possess a valid US Driver’s license of the appropriate class and required endorsements throughout employment.

 

Desired Qualifications

Experience in:

·        Higher education work setting

·        Commercial/industrial electrical field

·        Medium voltage (e.g. up to 12,460 volts)

·        Troubleshooting of emergency electrical systems (up to 600v)

·        Evidence of effective communication skills.

 

Working Environment

Wear personal protective equipment (e.g. safety glasses, face shield, negative pressure respirator, gloves, hearing protection). Climb stairs and ladder. Travel throughout campus. Work in extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, confined spaces (tunnels, man holes, vaults), intense noise, dirty environment, air contamination and hazardous materials. Lift, bend, and carry heavy objects up to 75 pounds. Work from ladders 6' to 30' using power tools to repair/install telecommunication/data cable. Drive University vehicles. 

 

May be exposed to hazardous and dangerous materials, tools, and equipment which will require safety precautions and/or specific process to be followed, and may include the use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) (e.g. safety glasses, hearing protection, negative pressure and positive pressure respirator). Work within a team environment and contribute to team goals. Use of PPE may require medical clearance prior to use.

This position is located at the Tempe campus.

 

Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license (minimum of Class D) upon employment and maintain throughout employment. Post-offer of employment, selected candidate must possess an acceptable driving record which is 5 or fewer points in the most recent 39 month period from date of hire.

Must pass pre-employment physical examination post offer of employment to include audio exam, asbestos worker clearance, respiratory clearance questionnaire and respiratory fit test.

 

May participate in programs which involve adherence to program regulations, including physical exam, annual testing, x-rays, medication, vaccinations at ASU expense, and completion of a Health Surveillance Questionnaire.

 

This position is dependent on the continuation of funding from a specific source other than general operating funds. As such, this appointment may terminate when the funding is no longer available.
