The Community Advocacy Manager provides direct support and advocacy for the Roadrunner Food Bank network of partner agencies and the communities they serve. The position serves as primary liaison, advocate, mentor, and capacity builder for our agency partners in their hunger relief work. The position also supports the overall strategic goal of Roadrunner Food Bank (RRFB) to build community partnerships and to be a force-multiplier for local and regional food systems development, with the goal of building sustainable, hunger-free communities where everyone has access to healthy, nutritious food. This position is based out of our Las Cruces, NM office.

This is an exempt position; $60,000 - $62,000 per year salary DOE

Primary Responsibilities

  • Serves as primary liaison, advocate, mentor, and capacity builder for the RRFB network of agency partners.
  • Working from a local and regional food systems approach, builds relationships and collaborative partnerships with community organizations, businesses, local governments, and resources to meet the food access needs of those experiencing hunger and food access issues.
  • Brings community players together to discuss holistic approaches to providing services to those experiencing food insecurity and food access issues.
  • Develops and executes community needs assessments to determine programming related to food insecurity and food access issues.
  • Speaks publicly in a wide variety of environments.
  • Works towards increasing the ability of our agency partners to be more effective in their hunger relief efforts with a special emphasis on leveraging local and regional food systems approaches.
  • Mentors, advocates, and facilitates capacity building and best practices development for the RRFB network of partner agencies.
  • Participates actively in community collaborations to further the goal of building sustainable, hunger-free communities where everyone has access to healthy, nutritious food.
  • Works closely with the RRFB President and CEOs Strategic Support Team, the RRFB Operations and Logistics Team, and the RRFB Sourcing Team to support food access and hunger relief work in assigned communities.
  • May provide management and supervision to team members, interns, and volunteers
  • Prepares proposals, reports, presentations, training documents, and other materials in support of position responsibilities.
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate records and generating reports to document and measure key aspects of the positions responsibilities (including status reports and materials in support of donors and fund development efforts).?
  • Responsible for maintaining excellent customer service relations with all internal and external customers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned in support of the RRFB Mission and Strategic Goals.

Travel Requirement

  • This position includes significant travel requirements throughout assigned New Mexico counties. Mileage reimbursement is provided for the use of a personal vehicle in work-related activities, and depending on availability, a company vehicle may be provided.
  • This position can include nights, weekends, and over 40 hrs. per week.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelors degree in a related field, or equivalent relevant work experience a plus.
  • Background in hunger relief, food access, community building, or local and regional food systems work a plus.
  • A passion for connecting communities (especially rural communities) to critical resources and support.
  • Commitment to excellent customer service and continuous process improvement.
  • Bilingual English-Spanish a plus.
  • Prior non-profit experience a plus.
  • Highly organized with superior attention to detail and excellent follow-up skills.
  • Ability to think strategically and to resolve problems.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across functional and programmatic teams and amongst diverse people and groups.
  • Ability to interface with a hybrid work environment.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including group facilitation skills.
  • Ability to author and present presentations to a variety of audiences.
  • Positive attitude and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Results and impact driven and ability to manage time effectively by prioritizing tasks and managing competing priorities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office environment and standard office equipment.
  • Must have a valid drivers license.

Physical Environment

  • This job is performed in a variety of spaces, including an office and community and partner facilities (both indoor and outdoor).
  • Frequent travel is required using a personal vehicle or company-provided vehicle.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.
  • Extensive computer operation with repetitive finger movement.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
  • Occasional exposure to weather conditions including heat, cold, wet and/or humid conditions.
  • Noise level is typically moderate.
