Position Summary |
TheDepartment of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences is a multi-divisiondepartment within the UNM School of Medicine. We provide excellent, innovativeeducation to residents, medical students, and health professionals; the highestquality mental health care to the citizens of New Mexico; and pursueoutstanding multidisciplinary research that helps solve important healthproblems.
The Division ofCommunity Behavioral Health (CBH), within the broader Department of Psychiatry,is seeking a self-motivated individual to join our dynamic multi-disciplinaryteam. The mission of CBH is to address behavioral health care disparitiesthrough: health services research and evaluation; training and workforcedevelopment; and through increasing access to quality behavioral healthservices that are holistic, cost-effective and provided with respect to uniquecultures and communities.
CBH is seeking aCommunity Health Worker to support our EARLY program and other early psychosisinitiatives. Duties include, but are not limited to: providing services andresources to individuals/families necessary to promote rehabilitation,recovery, and resiliency; interviewing clients and gathering information/data;identifying and addressing individual and family strengths and barriers;supporting individuals and families in crisis; providing interventions andsupporting community activities that address specific goals in the followingareas: independent living, learning, housing, wellness, socialization,education, employment, and recreation.; assisting with accessing resources andcommunications and provide referrals; offering information, teaching skills andclasses as needed. Statewide curriculum development for trainingmultidisciplinary professionals as well as in provided psychoeducation toindividuals natural supports. Assistingdirector in designing CPSW rotation in early intervention psychosis (withoversight of other CPSWs in tandem with supervision by director as apreceptor).
This positionrequires a commitment to helping others and a high level of compassion, empathyand self-awareness; lived experience, a collaborative nature to work with amultidisciplinary team; resourcefulness, responsiveness and flexibility; superborganizational and communication/ relationship building skills. This is abenefits eligible, term position.

Conditions of Employment |
- Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
- Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
- Fingerprinting, and subsequent clearance, may be required for this position depending on assignment.
- May be required to obtain a Community Support Worker (CSW) certification within six months of hire.
- May be required to hold a Certified Peer Support Worker (CPSW) certification if acting as a peer support worker.
- Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
- Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.

Minimum Qualifications |
High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification as a Peer Support Worker.
- Familiarity with first episode psychosis and behavioral health related issues.
- Familiarity with substance use/mental health interplay.
- Experience working with homeless/housing insecure population.
- Experience working with individuals with legal involvement.
- Experience working with individuals within psych emergency/ERs/inpatient.
- Mental health training and extensive knowledge of community resources.
- Experience working with youth and families in crisis.
- Experience providing outreach, support and training.
- Specialized training/experience with Suicide Screening and Prevention.
- Experience engaging and collaborating with stakeholders.
- Experience with developing and implementing curriculum for programmatic development as well as training other professionals.
- Proficiency with data compilation, spreadsheets.
