MA in Business, Public Administration Accounting, Finance or other field which provides relevant expertise, a Certified Public Accountant credential and 5 years experience in a directly related field, 3 of which have included a supervisory or administrative capacity. Extensive knowledge of the GAAP and practices of fiscal management/ administration, supervisory techniques, government accounting, audits, budgets, purchasing and systems is required. Ability to interpret and administer activities in compliance statutes, rules and regulations, to exercise accurate judgment and assessment techniques is also required. Must be able to communicate clearly.



Job Description:

FINANCIAL CONTROLLER: Manages the financial and accounting activities of the corporation; develops fiscal policies and procedures and directs their implementation; analyses budget, directs activities such as audits, accounting, complex government reporting and inventory systems, payroll and withholding.

JOB CHARACTERISTICS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This position is exempt from overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. This is a professional position which requires organization and communication skills, as well as judgment, tact and diplomacy in contacts with YDI employees, community residents, parents and local government agencies. Strict adherence is required to all regulation concerning confidentiality. Good general health. Background investigation to include fingerprinting will be required. TB Skin Test and Physical may be required every two years. Frequent travel is required by employee and proof of satisfactory car insurance must be provided.

Youth Development Inc. is an at-will employer. Employment is by mutual consent of the company and employee, and either may terminate the relationship at any time with or without cause or advance notice. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (Not Inclusive):

  • Ensures compliance with GAAP and all regulations on the finances of the corporation and its programs;
  • Advises corporate management staff in planning, organizing and directing fiscal and administrative policies;
  • Analyses fiscal management/ controls and develops improved methods as needed;
  • Determines the types of reports needed by the organization and ensures accurate means of producing them;
  • Appraises projects/ programs as to their necessity, timeliness, economy and relationship to long term operating programs and makes recommendations;
  • Set up grant contracts upon receipt and assists with close out as needed;
  • Develops and recommends methods of short term and long range financial planning to establish and maintain program accountability;
  • Works with auditors throughout audit process;
  • Supervises, evaluates, and provides training for accounting staff;
  • Implements inventory control mechanisms and ensures accountability for all inventory;
  • OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED.
