Position Summary

The Division of Epidemiology, within the Department of Internal Medicine, is seeking a term Outreach Clinic Coordinator to complete required outreach and clinic-related duties withinthe Radiation Exposure Screening and Education Program (RESEP), a HRSA fundedgrant program that includes the following: develop education programs;disseminate information on radiogenic diseases and the importance of earlydetection; screen eligible individuals for cancer and other radiogenicdiseases; provide appropriate referrals for medical treatment; and facilitatedocumentation of Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA) claims. TheCoordinator completes the day-to-day operations of the program's outreach topatients, families, and mining communities. This includes the creation andpresentation of information about the RESEP program and RECA as well as othereducational materials. The Coordinator acts as a liaison and patient navigatorfor the screening clinic, and schedules, coordinates, and provides follow-upand results following clinic visits. The Coordinator also completes thecollection of historical and clinical information from former mining industryworkers, completes database entry, and assists with RECA claims of the formerminers as directed by the RESEP Program Specialist.

Duties include the following:

  1. Screen patients foreligibility for the RESEP program and assist them throughout the process, toinclude completing medical and occupational questionnaires with patients/families,making appointments, and supporting patient/family during clinic appointment (assistingwith paperwork, answering questions, etc.). Complete additional support dutiesrequired to finalize the records from patient encounters.
  2. Develop understanding of benefits and eligibility thatmay be available to those served by RESEP program; assist patients and familiesin navigating through the process of filing claims and trouble-shooting;coordinate with providers, attorneys, home health agencies, etc., asappropriate to assist patients.
  3. Participate in periodicHRSA conference calls, to include compiling information for reporting purposes.
  4. Schedule and attend outreachfunctions for the RESEP program, to include those in collaboration with otherorganizations that support miners and former uranium workers in New Mexico.
  5. Create outreach and educational materials and distribute;track outreach and clinic activities for program needs and reports to funder.
  6. Complete required data entry forvarious reporting purposes, including REDCap data entry of charts and clinicvisits.

Conditions of Employment
  • CPR certification may be a requirement for some positions in this classification.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Skills in planning, organizing, coordinating, implementing, and tracking outreach (in-person, written communications, speaking with groups, etc.)
  • Skills in patient navigation/education, problem-solving, and case management.
  • Ability to work both independently and also in close proximity with team members, and to balance multiple program priorities. Willingness/ability to work as a team and collaborate on solutions, and to be flexible as program needs change.
  • Ability to understand and speak Din (Navajo), Spanish, or Keres language would be a benefit, but is not required.
Additional Requirements Some travel within New Mexico will be required for outreach activities (may include occasional overnight travel). Coordinator will use own vehicle for travel and will be reimbursed for mileage.
