Position Summary

The Center for Memory & Aging (CMA) at UNM is funded primarily from National Institute of Health (NIH) grant mechanisms, our main projects involve longitudinal study of older participants with and without cognitive problems, including collection of MRIs, cognitive, neurological, and biospecimen data. Currently all our research studies work with older adults, ages 50 and above. The Center for Memory & Aging is a growing center with a focus on research in Alzheimers and related dementias. We have a long record of continued research funding.

The CMA is seeking a self-starting, motivated candidate for the position of Research Coordinator. Projects involve longitudinal study of older participants with and without cognitive problems which includes MRI imaging, cognitive, neurological, and blood collection. The position includes recruiting, scheduling and screening participants, conducting assessments, ensuring protocol adherence for specified study, maintaining accurate records and data entry.

The individual in this position must have strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of people in a diverse community, particularly older adults with cognitive difficulties and their families. This position also requires a person with professional presentation, interpersonal skills and must be detail-oriented. This employee will work with confidential information and data, work directly with research participants, schedule and coordinate research appointments and examinations. They will be working in a team environment with other coordinators and assistants, lab staff, as well as doctors and other providers. Coordinators for this position may also be involved with drawing and processing of blood samples and measuring vitals. Bilingual in Spanish is an asset.

Conditions of Employment
  • Successful candidate must submit to a post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check. Additional health screenings may be required, dependent on the nature of the research conducted, as determined by Employee Occupational Health Services.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
  • All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the US-UNM Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference given to applicants who also have the following (must be detailed in Resume or Cover Letter)

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Detail-oriented

Demonstrated ability to work with older participants and their families

Demonstrated ability to work with culturally and ethnically diverse participants

Experience working with research protocols and electronic data capture (EDCs)

Experience recruiting, scheduling and maintaining rapport with participants and their families

Experience administering research assessments, such as research questionnaires or cognitive tests

Ability to speak, read, and write Spanish
