Tribal Driving Permit Required: YesDISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE JOB:The Corrections Officer performs duties of complexity in the care, custody and welfare of long-term sentenced
incarcerated adult/juvenile inmates in the corrections/detention facilities; involving a wide array of complex tasks
related to all aspects of corrections security and adult/juvenile inmate custody. This position is highly demanding
and the physical safety of the public, staff, Visitors, and adult/juvenile inmates depends upon the efficient and
effective execution of duties.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
o Enforce standards, rules, regulations, codes, statutes, and laws including but not limited to those provided by
Title 25 of the US. Code of Federal Regulations, the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), Tribal Law and Order
Act (TLOA) Long-term Incarceration Certification Standards, and the American Corrections Association
(ACA) Standards.
0 Provide safety and security to the correctional institution through direct and indirect adult/juvenile inmate
supervision, health and welfare checks, pat and strip searches, off-site transports, escorts, head counts,
contraband mitigation, key control, fire safety, OSHA compliance, perimeter security and adult/juvenile
handbook enforcement.

- Perform the use of self-defense techniques, department approved firearms, Tasers, electronic restraint devices
(ERD), chemical agents, batons, hand/leg restraints, and less-lethal munitions during everyday job duties as
needed to include While on transports.

- Provide admission/booking services for adult/juvenile inmate bookings/intakes by providing fingerprinting,
photographs, recording inmate/resident data, entering data accurately and thoroughly into Jail Management
System, storing personal property as assigned.
0 Coordinate, supervise, and assist in facilitation of inmate services, rehabilitative programs and related
activities established by institutional standards to include but not limited to: access to medical care, courts,
mail, legal mail, food services, recreation, library services, inmate phone system, work programs, religious
services, laundry, and counseling services.

- Supervise adult/juvenile inmate movement, maintain discipline and prevent the introduction of contraband
into the facility; documenting all observations and activities.Maintain and prepare accurate reports, activity logs, serious incidents reports, memorandums, depositions
and statements.Conduct adult/ juvenile inmate releases in accordance with all court orders and established protocol and
standards.Responsible for the off-site transports of inmates in accordance with policies and procedures.Respond to all emergencies located within the adult and juvenile facility.Physically restrain and/or subdue combative individuals using physical force to gain compliance; make
entrance through barriers such as 60-bed maximum security housing units and individuals and two per
inmate cells.Perform other related duties as assigned.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITY:Knowledge of commonly used laws, codes, statutes, and standards governing the incarceration of criminal
offenders.Knowledge of basic counseling tactics and interpersonal communication skills.Knowledge of behavior management techniques to supervise maximum-security adult/juvenile inmates.
Knowledge of radio transmission procedures to produce effective communication between two parties.
Ability to operate the Jail Management System, Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS), Electronic
Fingerprint terminals, computers and other automated equipment and electronic devices of a complex nature
to record data, enter data, and/or review data.Ability to learn and apply standards, rules, regulations, codes, statutes, laws, policies, and procedures.
Ability to supervise, redirect, coach, counsel, instruct and restrain adult, juvenile, male and female inmates in
a mixed classification setting; applying institution approved Physical Intervention/Restraint Techniques.
Ability to exercise sound judgment and respond to stressful crises calmly, quickly, and decisively.Ability to exercise good judgement and multitask during dynamic situations.Ability to analyze problems quickly and make accurate decisive decisions While under stressful environmental
situation and conditions.Ability to remain clam in stressful situations while dealing with violent, aggressive, suicidal, hostage
situations, hostile, hysterical, or grieving inmates.Ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism and tact.Ability to communicate effectively with inmates, gain their respect and confidence, and establish and maintain
constructive relationships.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, Community Officials
and the general public; providing exceptional customer service.Ability to stand on hard surfaces for extended periods, work outdoors in extreme weather conditions,
physically restrain or engage in forceful movement of an adult/juvenile inmate and walk for extended
periods of time.Ability to work with individuals with a range of moods and behaviors, working with individuals in a
potentially hazardous situation involving physically aggressive and/or Violent behavior; and/or blood borne
pathogen exposure.Ability to utilize less-lethal/lethal weapons.Ability to pass all less-lethal/lethal weapons and self-defense certifications on an annual basis.Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position and agree to maintain a drug-free workplace.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
High School diploma or GED, US. Citizen or hold a valid U.S. Permanent Resident Card.
One (1) year of experience working as a security guard, detention, police or military officer or closely related
field preferred.ADDITIONAL REg ZUIREMENTS:

- Must be eighteen (18) years of age with no felony or domestic violence convictions.
0 Must successfully pass Basic Correction/Detention Officer Training Academy, Peace Officer Physical
Aptitude Test (POPAT), a Fitness for Duty Exam, and Firearms Certification as a condition of employment.
0 Required to pass a federal adjudication/background check, Polygraph or voice stress analyzer testing and DPS
fingerprint clearance as a condition of employment.
0 Required mandatory reporter pursuant to Title 7, Chapter 2 (7.205), B.
0 Required to attend Title 7 Mandatory Reporting training on a yearly basis.
0 Not been found guilty of, or entered a plea of nolo contendere or guilty to any felony offense or any two or
more misdemeanor offenses under Federal, State, or Tribal law involving crimes of violence, sexual assault,
molestation, exploitation, contact or prostitution, crimes against persons, or offenses commuted against
children.
0 No convictions of a felony or any offense that would be considered a felony if committed in the State of
Arizona including offenses involving domestic Violence.
0 Pass extensive pre-employment testing: physical aptitude written test, interview review board, polygraph,
psychological assessment, medical examination, background investigation, fingerprint clearance, and drug
screen.
0 Possess and maintain a valid Arizona Drivers License with less than three traffic violations (civil or
misdemeanor offense) within the last 39 months as a condition of employment.
0 Not have been dishonorably discharged from the United States Armed Forces.
0 Not have illegally possessed or used marijuana for any purpose within the past three years.
0 Clear Federal Regulated Adjudication 25 Code of Federal Regulation 63, Executive Order (E.O) 12968,
the Gun Control Act of 1968 (Pub. L. 90-618); the Crime Control Act of 1990 (Pub. L. 101-647), and the
requirements of the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, as amended (Pub. L. 101-
630) - Background clearance every five (5) years.
0 Required to obtain a Tribal Driving permit. Valid state drivers license with a current proof of driving
record for the past 39 months will be required to qualify for a tribal driving permit. Proof of driving
record must be submitted with application and must not be more than 60 days old from the date of
