    DEFINITION: Under general supervision, provides guidance and counseling within the comprehensive prevention curriculum. Works within the CCBG (Comprehensive Competency Based Guidance) curriculum program with all students. Assists with program scheduling and class selection. Provides individual and group counseling programs.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    TASKS:
    Maintains student caseload; constantly reviews transcripts, grades, and credits; advises students in course-based planning on their academic and career wants and needs; works within the K-12 prevention curriculum to provide on-going support; meets with students and families to discuss personal problems affecting students; provides referrals to outside agencies and private practitioners; reports and documents all Child Protective Service, suicide, and homicide cases; writes up, completes, and shares the necessary paperwork for plans on disabled students; designs and implements academic, career, and social/personal lesson plans; leads educational career action plans (ECAP) lessons for upper school students.

    Coordinates, plans, and implements District Choice State Testing for ACT and PSAT assist with AIMS testing; review test scores with students to ensure they understand how to read and interpret the score sheet; assesses school-to-work needs of students; addresses the competencies of the CCBG curriculum; assists with course registration; attends various meetings; develops on-going support groups; acts as liaison with outside agencies, schools, and programs; provides individual crisis counseling as needed; performs other duties as assigned.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
    Knowledge of District and Department policies and procedures.
    Knowledge and skills in the areas of youth development, family systems.
    Knowledge in the area of child development, needs, behaviors; Crisis intervention and management.
    Knowledge of Cultural diversity and value systems.
    Knowledge of cultural, ethic and environmental differences.
    Knowledge of contemporary social and economic conditions and related issues.
    Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
    Skill in implementing counseling theories.
    Skill in conflict resolution, mediation, and responding to crisis situations.
    Skill in planning and implementing academic success and lesson plans.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is performed in an indoor environment. Work requires frequent sitting, repetitive motion, vision to monitor, and may require some lifting.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    Guidance Counselor certification from the Arizona Department of Education.
    Experience working within the schools.
    Classroom teaching experience preferred.
