Definition
Definition: Under the supervision of the Clinical Manager, provides on-scene critical crisis intervention services to facilitate immediate stabilization for individuals and families experiencing emotional, mental, substance use, or behavioral crisis situations. Provides crisis intervention, crisis assessment, brief counseling, emotional support, case management, and coordination of care for individuals and families. Works in a variety of stressful and emotional situations. This job class is treated as FLSA Non-Exempt. This is a driving position.

Equivalency: Any equivalent combination of education and experience that will allow the applicant to satisfactorily perform the duties of the job may be considered.

Examples of Tasks
- Provides mobile crisis intervention services for individuals and family members
- Assess individual in crisis to determine the level of intervention needed
- Provide immediate support through brief counseling and de-escalation techniques
- Provide direct in-home, in-office, and Community based crisis assessment, counseling and follow-up services as assigned. Counseling services will be provided to youth, adults and families.
- Develop and implement crisis intervention plans and safety plans with client and/or family members.
- Provide comprehensive services, follow up, and referrals to clients and coordinate communication with other tribal departments and state agencies to accomplish continuity of care. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with all related tribal government departments and state and local community behavioral health, and contracting organizations.
- Provide brief counseling intervention following Community or Departmental incidents, i.e. bereavement, traumatic event.
- Provide intake screening and assessment for evaluation of needs and formulate clinical recommendations as needed.
- Conduct death notifications.
- Assess, counsel, advise and identify and coordinate referral services for additional assistance and resources.
- Collaborate with SRPMIC first responders and multidisciplinary team members.
- Provide mentorship, instruction, and guidance to Crisis Interventionists and masters level interns.
- Provides mobile crisis response services for individuals and family members of individuals experiencing Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) or substance use disorder (SUD), including assisting with access to detoxification, treatment, and recovery support services for OUD and any co-occurring SUD/mental health conditions
- Assist with transportation and transfer of patient care to Crisis Stabilization Unit and detox services
- Ensure quality service delivery including clinical care and all associated documentation. Maintain all client records in accordance with agency policies and procedures. Maintain crisis response data accurately.
- Perform job duties in a safe manner at all times; provide support for team members and perform cooperatively and professionally as part of a cohesive team.
- Participate in all regularly scheduled team and supervision meetings. Attends training to develop and maintain continued education and skills in but not limited to crisis intervention, mental health, substance use, grief, tribal ordinances, etc.
- Participate in prevention, education, and awareness events for the Community, including providing in-service presentations or educational training on crisis intervention.
- Performs other job duties as assigned by Supervisor or Clinical Manager
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics:
- Knowledge of the history, culture, laws, rules, customs and traditions of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community.
- Knowledge of policies, procedures, methods and techniques used in the assigned programs.
- Knowledge of laws and court procedures relating to or applicable to alcohol and substance dependency treatment or other general mental health programs.
- Knowledge of the basic techniques of CPR, First Aid, universal precautions for blood borne pathogens and emergency referral procedures.
- Knowledge of medical and public health resources available to SRPMIC.
- Knowledge of procedures and methods for establishing and maintaining client records.
- Knowledge of medical and behavioral health terminology and policies for safeguarding confidential information.
- Skill evaluating client needs and utilizing programs and SRPMIC resources to meet client needs.
- Skill using routine office equipment and the personal computer including MS Office software.
- Skill establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with clients, supervisor, co-workers, and representatives of resource agencies.
- Skill assessing and evaluating emergency situations and utilizing appropriate emergency procedures.
- Skill evaluating client needs, utilizing program and SRPMIC resources or other appropriate referrals to meet such needs.
- Skill providing brief interventions and guidance to individuals or families.
- Ability to work beyond normal hours including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations and collaborate in a team environment
- Ability to present a positive public image and maintain effective working relationships with other SRPMIC employees and the public, including maintaining a professional demeanor during crisis situations
- Ability to maintain professionalism consistent with the mission, vision and values of the Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community
- Ability to drive Community vehicle and abide by traffic laws and rules.
- Ability to work a flexible work schedule including varying shifts with various days off.
- Ability to maintain accurate and timely records according to prescribed standards.
- Ability to successfully complete the orientation period.
- Ability to lift and carry 25 lbs.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education and Experience:
- A Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Counseling, Social Work or closely related area required
- Minimum of two (2) years experience in counseling or crisis intervention required; direct experience in crisis services preferred
- Licensed with the AZ Board of Behavioral Health Examiners preferred (LMSW, LCSW, LAC, or LPC)

- Must possess valid AZ driver license
- Must be at least 21 years old
