JOB SUMMARY
Assists the registered nurse in caring for monitored patients and performs a variety of clerical, utility and unit support activities in ICU/ER.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/EXPECTATIONS
  • Routinely recognizes and documents dysrhythmias as they occur and report to responsible nurse.
  • Consistently transcribes physician orders accurately and coordinates care with other departments.
  • Regularly performs general clerical duties including, but not limited to: preparing admission charts in advance, answering phone, entering of patients in log book, and entering and reviewing charges.
  • On a regular basis assists RN with transfers and discharges by collecting and copying chart, arranging transportation, and coordinating phone calls. Restocks room after patient leaves.
  • Always helps direct activities to keep unit running smoothly by greeting and directing visitors, ordering and maintaining supplies, notifying RNs and physicians of completed tests, and performing daily safety checks including arrest cart and refrigerator checks.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • High school grad required. Graduate of a Unit Clerk program preferred, and EKG/telemetry monitoring course preferred. Rhythm interpretation class required within 3 months of hire.
  • CCU Only: Current State and Federal Nurse Aide Registry required.
  • None required. Two years Unit Clerk and/or Critical Care Clerk experience preferred.
  • CPR certification required. Typing skills, the ability to communicate clearly and effectively maintaining good eyesight including the ability to work in confined areas, and knowledge of medical terminology required.

HOURS
  • 40 hours per week 1st shift (6:00am - 6:00pm and 6:00am - 2:00pm)
  • Weekends, Holidays, Rotating shifts and On-Call required
