Position Summary

UNMTemps, the University of New Mexico's internal temporary staffing department, seeks a temporary Custodian to join the HSC FM Custodial Department.

This is a potential temp-to-regular opportunity, subject to the selected candidates performance throughout the temporary assignment, in addition to the business needs of the hiring department.

Performs custodial maintenance duties, including dusting, mopping, finishing and buffing floors, vacuuming and shampooing carpets, cleaning and restocking restrooms.

Assignment Details:

Days & Hours: Shift 3 Monday - Friday, 4:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. or Shift 2 Monday - Friday, 4:30 p.m. - 1:00 a.m.

Anticipated Start Date: to be determined

Projected End Date: one year from date of hire

Parking Arrangements: Responsibility of the selected employee

UNMTemps provides staffing solutions to UNM departments requesting temporary employees as positions become available due to a vacancy, when regular employees are absent, for peak work periods, and for special events. As such, UNMTemps assignments/positions may end with little or no advance notice.

Conditions of Employment
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • If this position is assigned to the Athletics Department, either administratively or functionally, compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations is required.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
  • All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the CWA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Minimum Qualifications

Less than high school; no previous experience required.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to understand verbal instructions.
  • Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.
  • Ability to operate vacuums and other related equipment.
  • Ability to safely use cleaning equipment and supplies.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade.
  • Ability to lift and manipulate heavy objects.
  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
  • Ability to understand written and verbal communications.
