    POSITION SUMMARY
    Under the direction of the secondary school principal, the Dean of Students/Athletic Director will perform assigned duties in the areas of general administration, student discipline and attendance, employee supervision, school safety, student support, and campus life. In addition, this employee has primary responsibility for oversight of the schools athletic program and facilities, including athletic fields.

    PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Work with school leadership and staff to create systems and procedures that will minimize disruption to the learning environment and maximize student learning
    • Manage student supervision issues and enforce school behavioral expectations
    • Deal with student discipline issues that arise, investigating and conferring appropriate consequences for behavior
    • Recommend appropriate action to be taken concerning threats toward students and assist in implementation
    • Counsel students and parents about school and district policies and procedures
    • Assist staff and parents in developing student behavioral expectations
    • Work with community and governmental agencies on problems relating to drug abuse, discipline problems and truancy from school
    • Supervise and evaluate support staff members and head coaches to include observations and collection of pertinent information for the purpose of evaluation
    • Coordinate, implement and supervise the athletic program of the school
    • Represent the school at the Southern Region AIA meetings
    • Interpret and ensure compliance with the rules and regulations of the Arizona Interscholastic Association and the State Board of Education as it relates to programs under the jurisdiction of the AIA
    • Provide in-service activities for coaches and sponsors
    • Work with site administration and the MUSD Human Resource Office in facilitating the hiring of coaches
    • Work directly with MUSD departments as a resource to assist them in their service and functions related to interscholastic activities
    • Oversee the planning, preparation, designing, and repair of athletic facilities at the site
    • Compiles and orders athletic equipment and supplies
    • Monitor athletic budgets to insure equity of uniforms and equipment bids
    • Interpret state statutes and AIA by-laws for school personnel, parents, and media
    • Investigates and responds to parental concerns and acts as a resource regarding interscholastic policies, procedures, activities, and programs

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with teachers and administrators at school site
    • Ability to objectively investigate incidents to determine appropriate consequences and follow-through
    • Ability to utilize various problem-solving techniques
    • Ability to remain patient and supportive of students experiencing behavioral and academic difficulties
    • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
    • Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks simultaneously
    • Knowledge of site and district discipline policies and procedures

    QUALIFICATIONS
    • Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate
    • Minimum of three (3) years of successful teaching experience, with increasing levels of responsibility in the school setting
    • Minimum of three (3) years of successful coaching experience at the secondary level
    • Demonstrated ability in managing student behavioral, academic, and attendance issues
    • Masters Degree in Educational Leadership or related field
    • Principals Certificate
    • Training in behavioral management techniques

    CLASSIFICATION
    • 10-month Administrator Contract, Range 24 ($63,032 - $70,209), with an additional stipend of $10,000 for athletic director duties (including summer duties)
