Position Summary | The School of Engineering is seeking a highly motivated self-starter for the lead administrator position in the Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering (CCEE). CCEE is a highly research active academic department of 17 tenured/tenure-track faculty and lecturers, 8 staff and several affiliated staff, research faculty and post-docs. With close to 400 undergraduate and graduate students, more than $6.2M in research expenditures annually and collaborations with several UNM Research Centers, we are looking for a leader who can keep this fast paced and active department running. You would serve as an advisor to the departmental chairperson under limited supervision, and manage all administrative functions of the department, the Center for Water and the Environment, the South West Environmental Finance Center and the Resilience Center. Previous experience at an academic institution is highly desirable. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, leadership, and the ability to handle confidential matters discretely. You will supervise staff and student employees; conduct human resource administration to include the hiring of faculty, staff, and students; facilitate special projects; develop and implement operational procedures and oversee daily functioning of the department. Additionally, you would serve as an advisor to and liaison to other departments, agencies and customers internal and external to the University. Knowledge and experience in areas covered by other staff in the department is also highly desirable. These areas may include: scheduling and catalog maintenance; fiscal and budgetary management; facility and departmental resource management; pre- and post-award management of contract and grant funding. Minimum Qualifications |
High school diploma or GED; at least 2 years of experience managing at least one of the following functional areas: fiscal services, administration and/or human resources AND 4 years of additional experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis. |
Preferred Qualifications |
Bachelors Degree Experience as an operations manager or equivalent, reporting to a CEO, Chair of a Department, or equivalent. Supervisory experience including performance management. Supervisory experience including teambuilding. Experience in an academic setting and/or with research active engineers, scientists or faculty. Experience with complex schedules that require excellent attention to detail. Human Resource experience to include recruitment, hiring, disciplinary actions, timekeeping and FLSA, and advising and coordinating search committees with large pools of applicants. General knowledge of accounting in higher education, to include pre and post-award administration. General knowledge of immigration procedures, including specific knowledge of DS-2019s, J-1 and H-1B visa requirements for foreign nationals. Advanced ability to think critically and analyze information and situations. Ability to learn and use with a high degree of proficiency, internal reporting, recordkeeping and general administrative computer systems for financial, human resources, and student management. Experience developing and implementing operational procedures and SOPs. Experience providing facilities and resource management. |
