DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
The Deputy Chief-Fire Marshal directs, coordinates and evaluates the personnel, programs, and overall
operations of a comprehensive fire prevention program. The position is responsible for the compliance and
oversight of Fire Investigations and enforcement of Gila River fire code. standards and public safety goals of
the Community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


- Responsible for the management of a comprehensive fire prevention program and overall management of
the Fire Prevention Division, to include: Budgeting, Public Education, and Fire Investigations.

- Responsible for the oversight of building and property inspections for fire hazards, adequacy of fire
protection systems, and general compliance with fire codes, laws, community ordinance and rules and
regulations; prior to .suance of permits by the Building Safety Department.

- Responsible for reviewing architectural plans, system installation drawings and written proposals to ensure
that fire protection systems, hydraulic calculations and regulated process are in conformance with fire codes
and standards.

- Represents and serves on committees, task forces, and interagency coordinating groups regarding the Fire
Department; presenting material and reports to Tribal Council and/or Committees.
0 Issues written corrective action notices, citations and appears in court as a result of fire ordinance violations.
A attorneys with legal actions as required.

- Responsible for meeting with citizen groups, organizations, contractors, architects, engineers and
developers; conducting oral presentations and providing information on the Communitys fire codes.

- Responsible for coordinating fire and life safety practices with other community inspectors and plans
examiners; responsible for coordinating public relations and public education programs to promote fire and
life safety.

- Responsible for the preparation and delivery of fire code related instruction to Fire Department personnel.

- Provides technical assistance to fire company officer and may exercise temporary functional lead
supervrsion.Prepares and maintains activity records and special reports.Resolves customer complaints in accordance with established policies and regulations.
Responsible for the supervision, training and evaluation of fire prevention staff.Responsible for the oversight of all Fire and Explosive Investigation Reports.Perform other related duties as assigned.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILL AND ABILITY:

- Knowledge of fire hazards and related fire prevention and abatement methods;

- Knowledge of the principles and practices of fire ca e and origin investigations;

- Knowledge of arson investigations, investigative case preparation and court testimony;

- Knowledge of chemistry and hazardous materials as it relates to environmental needs and fire code
compliance;

- Knowledge of the International Fire Codes; NFPA Standards; Federal Resource Conservation and Recovery
Act requirements pertaining to hazardous waste generation and disposal;

- Knowledge of Federal Occupational Safety and Health Act requirements pertaining to Employee Right toKnow and Emergency Response to Hazardous Waste requirements;Knowledge of principles and practices of program management;Ability to effectively plan; supervise and coordinate work of others;Ability to be sworn member of the Gila River Fire Department;Ability to communicate effectively; clearly and concisely; both orally and in writing;Ability to operate appropriate investigative tools; equipment and apparatus;Ability to operate computer terminals and micro computers to manipulate and retrieve data;Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees; CommunityOfficials and the general public;

- Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position; agree to maintain a Drug-free workplace.RE! ZUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Fire Science, Business or Public Administration
Engineering or closely related field and five (5) years experience with code compliance; fire prevention;
investigations; or fire administration; to include two (2) years of supervisory experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Requires State of Arizona Firefighter I & II certification or certification through the International Fire Service
Accreditation Congress (IFSAC); or the equivalent requirements and certification meeting NFPA 1001:
Standard for Firefighter qualifications.Required to obtain a Tribal Driving permit. Valid state drivers license with a current proof of driving record
for the past 39 months will be required to qualify for a tribal driving permit. Proof of driving record must be
submitted with application and must not be more than 60 days old from the date of submission of the
application.Must have International Code Council Fire Inspector I certification. Required to obtain International Code
Council Fire Inspector II or equivalent certification within six (6) months of hire.Required to pass a background check and fingerprint clearance as a condition of employment and must continue
to maintain throughout duration of employment.Must have been certified as a Fire Investigator; NAFI and/or IAAISupervisory, Salaried Position
