JOB SUMMARY
Performs complex work of considerable difficulty in supervising the recording and processing of court proceedings; performs other work as assigned or required. This is a Supervisory position which works under general direction of the Clerk of the Superior Court or designee. Positions at this level have as a primary responsibility planning, assigning, and reviewing work of a group of employees, as well as selecting, training, and disciplining individual employees. The responsibilities include oversight and approval of the employee's work product and coordination of multiple activities and resources including staff, supplies, equipment, funds, and/or contract resources. The decisions made significantly impact the operations and effectiveness of the organization. Judgment is required, both in application of established policies, goals, and objectives, and in application of concepts, plans, and strategies which may deviate from traditional methods and practices.

The Department is seeking to fill two vacancies. One successful applicant will supervise the Child Support Department and the other will supervise the Courtroom Clerk Department. Example of Duties

TYPICAL CLASSIFICATION ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Implements new procedures as established.
  • Plans and coordinates assignments of deputy clerks to divisions of the court.
  • Plans and coordinates weekly caseload assignments.
  • Reviews and evaluates effectiveness of programs and services offered.
  • Trains all new deputy clerks.
  • Establish goals and objectives, prepare reports, and conduct performance appraisals.
  • Coordinates continuing education for deputy clerks.
  • Coordinates departmental activities with other departments of the court.
  • Makes recommendations on policies and procedures.
  • Performs duties of a deputy clerk when necessary.
  • Monitors entry of case data in automated system and extracts data for reports.
  • To promote and adhere to the workplace values of accountability, commitment, and teamwork to help enrich lives beyond expectation.
  • Maintain absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, customer records, and restricted County information.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

  • Associates in Business Administration, or other related degree.
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative work experience.
  • One (1) year of supervisory experience.
  • Or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience may substitute for the minimum requirements.

Specific to the Courtroom Clerk Department

  • Knowledge of courtroom procedures, methods, rules, and policies.
  • Knowledge of automated court case management systems.
  • Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of legal terminology and business English.
  • Knowledge of procedures, guidelines, and statutory requirements that govern duties of courtroom clerks.
  • Skill in taking and transcribe dictation.
  • Skilled in using modern office equipment.
  • Ability to supervise staff.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of court matters.
  • Ability to train new courtroom clerks.
  • Ability to review legislation, rules, and statutes and recommend procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Independent body mobility to stand, walk, bend, and sit for prolonged periods of time and/or drive a vehicle. Manual dexterity to reach, and grasp; manual dexterity to hand write or use computer keyboard; vision sufficient to see/read; hear and speak to communicate with customers in person and over the phone. The work is requires exerting up to 30 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 5 pounds of force constantly to move objects. May potentially be exposed to blood borne pathogens, sensitive materials and/or illicit subject matter such as photographs, narcotics or testimony.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Position is located in an indoor office environment.
