Tribal Driving Permit Required: YesDISTINGUISHING FEATURE OF THE CLASS:The Deputy Fire Chief assists in planning, directing, and reviewing the activities and operations of the Fire
Department including fire suppression, hazardous material mitigation, fire and life safety code compliance,
emergency medical services and administrative support services; to assist in coordinating assigned activities with
other Community departments and outside agencies; and to provide highly responsible and complex
administrative support to the Fire Chief.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Develop, plan and implement department goals and objectives; recommend and administer policies and
procedures; manage either the Administrative or Operations Division of the Gila River Fire Department.
Coordinate department/division activities with those of other departments and outside agencies and
organizations; provide staff assistance to the Community Manager and Council; prepare and present staff
reports and other necessary correspondence.Participate in the development of the Departments work plan; assign work activities; projects and programs;
monitor work ?ow; review and evaluate work products, methods, and procedures.Participate in the development and administration of the Fire department budget; participate in the forecast of
funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; monitor and approve expenditures; implement
mid-year adjustments.Participate in recommending the appointment of personnel; provide or coordinate staff training; work with
employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline procedures; recommend employee terminations.
Respond to major emergencies and assist with emergency service activities as necessary.Participate in the research of alternative approaches to fire suppression, hazardous material handling, fire and
life safety code, and emergency and non-emergency programs.Prepare a variety of technical and departmental activity reports and records.Will act as Fire Chief as needed.Perform other related duties as assigned.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILL AND ABILITY:0 Knowledge of organizational and management practices as applied to the analysis and evaluation of programs,
policies and organization needs.
0 Knowledge of principles and practices of organization, preparation and administration and personnel
management.
0 Knowledge of principles and practices of budget preparation and administration.
0 Knowledge of principles, practices, methods and techniques of modern fire and life safety and fire suppression
activities.
0 Knowledge of operation, maintenance and uses of firefighting equipment and apparatus.
0 Knowledge of applicable Federal, State and Community laws, codes and regulations.Ability to plan, direct and review fire suppression, fire and life safety code compliance and emergency medicalservice activities and hazardous materials emergencies.Ability to effectively plan, supervise and coordinate work of others.Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare reports.Ability to analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions andimplement recommendations in support of goals.Ability to develop and administer department/division policies.

0 Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position; agree to maintain a Drug-free workplace.REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Fire Science, Emergency Service, Business
Administration or related field and five (5) years of responsible full-time fire service work experience and which
includes three (3) years of administrative responsibility at the level of Battalion Chief or equivalent; OrAssociate/s degree from an accredited college or university in Fire Science, Emergency Service, Business
Administration or related field and seven (7) years of responsible full-time fire service work experience and which
includes four (4) years of administrative responsibility at the level of Battalion Chief or equivalent; OrTen (10) years of responsible full-time fire service work experience in a fire department and which includes four
(4) years of administrative responsibility, preferably at the level of Battalion Chief or equivalent.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Currently or have had all Firefighter associated requirements, Fire Instructor I, Incident Safety Officer,
Supervisory Training for Firefighters, Fire tactics and Strategy, Human Resource Management in the Fire Service,
Gila River Fire Officer Preparation.All of the above courses must be obtained within 24 months from date of hire/promotion.NIIMS certifications as required. May be required to obtain certain certifications that apply to
the position.Required to pass a background check and fingerprint clearance as a condition of employment and must continue
to maintain throughout duration of employment.Required to obtain a Tribal Operator7s permit. Valid state drivers license with a current proof of driving
record for the past 39 months will be required to qualify for a tribal driving permit. Proof of driving record
must be submitted with application and must not be more than 60 days old from the date of submission
of the application.Supervisory, Salaried Position
