Job Description
Develop, plan, and implement department goals and objectives; Recommend and administer policies and
procedures; Manage either the Administrative or Operations Division of the Gila River Fire Department.
Coordinate department/division activities with those of other departments and outside agencies and
organizations; provide staff assistance to the Community Manager and Council; Prepare and present staff
reports and other necessary correspondence.
Participate in the development of the Department’s work plan; Assign work activities, projects, and programs;
Monitor work flow and review and evaluate work products, methods, and procedures.
Participate in the development and administration of the Fire department budget; Participate in the forecast of
funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; Monitor and approve expenditures and
implement mid-year adjustments.
Participate in recommending the appointment of personnel; Provide and/or coordinate staff training with
employees to correct deficiencies; Implement disciplinary procedures, which may involve recommending
employee terminations.
Respond to major emergencies and assist with emergency service activities as necessary.
Prepare a variety of technical and departmental activity reports and records.
Act as Fire Chief as needed.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY: Knowledge of organizational and management practices as applied to the analysis and evaluation of programs,
policies and organization needs.
