Job Description

Programmer Analyst 3
Requisition ID req14389
Working Title DevOps Engineer/Programmer Analyst 3
Position Grade 14
Position Summary

UNM IT Applications develops and supports enterprise applications for the University of New Mexico campus. We have decades of a long commitment to provide UNMs students, faculty, and employees the tools they need to effectively support the Universitys mission. We are building systems today to leverage automation and process improvements ensuring our effectiveness for decades to come. This is a dynamic environment that provides employees the opportunities to work at scale in terms of applications and data, work with a wide variety of partners on campus, and engage in a wide array of technologies. This is a challenging and rewarding environment for candidates who want to grow and continually learn.

We are looking for a Programmer Analyst 3 with DevOps experience who has a proven track record of Fearlessness, Collaboration, Innovation, and Communication. This position will be involved in three types of projects: Application and System upgrades, Operational Support, and our move to a DevOps culture. The Programmer Analyst 3 position will lead projects to upgrade enterprise applications to ensure the application itself and the underlying infrastructure is up to date, secure, and delivering the most value to our end users. The upgrades could be inline upgrades or new installations on new virtual servers. We have a mixed environment of both Windows and UNIX. Operational Support consists of escalated support for Production issues, ensuring our various environments are running effectively, and performing tests to ensure system performance. Finally, this role will be a leader in our move to a DevOps culture as we build the foundation of automation, monitoring, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will understand that each of these initiatives require a slightly different skill set and will be able to effectively manage all three of these projects throughout the year.

UNM IT is currently transitioning from monolithic systems and architectures to automation, microservices, and cloud-based systems. We are currently building a DevOps culture and laying the foundation for an effective DevOps based infrastructure. We are working with technologies like Azure DevOps and Boomi Integration Platforms as the first step. We are excited to build the processes and standards necessary to help us leverage these new platforms to empower us to better serve the campus community. This position will be a leader in this transition and will be building the IT infrastructure of the future for the University of New Mexico.
