NEW HIRE SALARY RANGE: $94,000 - $104,000/year

POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Communications & Marketing is responsible for leading reputation management efforts, and developing, implementing and measuring a comprehensive communications and marketing strategic plan that will enhance Mental Health Center of Denvers brand and promote its unique role in and vital contribution to the community. This position is responsible for leading strategic development through tactical implementation of all Mental Health Center of Denver communications and marketing efforts, both internal and external, to assure consistent promotion of Mental Health Center of Denvers brand, positive image and leadership position throughout the organization and to all constituencies.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Leadership

  • Create and execute an annual comprehensive, proactive strategic communications and marketing plan to support Mental Health Center of Denvers mission and goals, increase public awareness, promote services, and manage organizational reputation. Ensure alignment of efforts and optimize integration/leverage points.
  • Protect and promote Mental Health Center of Denver brand and ensure Mental Health Center of Denvers philosophy, mission and vision are known and valued by the public and key constituencies.
  • Ensure marketing and communications goals are met through creation and management of evaluation system(s), including establishing and tracking benchmarks, and report progress to the Vice President & Chief Engagement Officer.
  • Develop and promote proactive, positive and effective messages and collateral materials.
  • Work with internal staff to maintain a strategic perspective; serve as liaison and provide expertise to other departments and Leadership Team.
  • Act as an internal consultant to proactively identify opportunities and support solutions to organizational needs.
  • Develop and coordinate technical assistance and resource materials to assist various departments in the marketing, communications and positioning of their activities.
  • Formulate and administer internal systems, procedures and policies to ensure creative, proactive efforts and smooth, timely responses.
  • Lead special projects as assigned, such re-branding, campaigns, etc.
  • Strive to increase subject matter expertise in mental health issues and other content relevant to Mental Health Center of Denver. Stay up to date on industry trends and keep informed of best practices in the fields of marketing and communications.
  • Promote, respect and value the principles of the organization: well-being, recovery, and resiliency-focused care; diversity and inclusiveness, and trauma-informed services and environment.

Communications

  • In collaboration with the Engagement & Communications team and other stakeholders, develop and direct a comprehensive PR effort to maintain positive relationships with the public, governmental agencies, supporters, donors, and key constituencies. Identify appropriate print and electronic media and social media channels for targeted stakeholder outreach.
  • Work collaboratively with staff to lead and support highly effective and strategic internal communications efforts, with particular attention to efficient use of various platforms, channels.
  • Lead and coordinate media interest and ensure regular proactive contact with targeted media.
  • Manage press relations and ensure appropriate and timely responses to media requests.
  • Serve as Mental Health Center of Denvers representative/PIO for all media-related issues.
  • Continue to build and maintain strong online reputation and develop/maintain social media profiles and quality content on Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn. Provide editorial direction for social media channels.
  • Leverage content across platforms and maximize distribution through all channels.
  • Assist in the preparation and drafting of various internal and external communications (email, social media, blogs, speaking points, panels, etc.) including high-level messaging for Executive Leadership.
  • Lead editorial direction, design, production and distribution of all Mental Health Center of Denver publications.
  • Oversee enhancement and on-going management of Mental Health Center of Denvers website.
  • Support communications strategy and needs for fundraising and donor relations.

Marketing

  • Assist programs/departments in development and implementation of strategic, targeted and measurable marketing/communications plans and tactics.
  • Oversee production of core collateral materials to assist programs/departments in marketing and positioning their activities externally. Provide approved and accessible templates, style guides, key messages, etc. for adaptation and provide training and technical assistance when necessary.
  • Manage Mental Health Center of Denvers brand through coordination of the appearance of all print and electronic materials such as letterhead, brochures, etc. Uphold protocol to ensure consistency in logo, fonts, photographs, graphics, etc. across organization.
  • Optimize print, social media and blog communications to generate interaction with key constituencies and maximize brand exposure.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION: Minimum requirement of a bachelors degree in public relations, applied communication, communication and media, marketing, and entrepreneurship, or similar. Masters degree in these areas preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum 8 years of experience leading and implementing comprehensive and integrated strategic communications and marketing plans that target numerous and disparate stakeholders. Minimum of 5 years experience in a community-serving organization with some knowledge of/interaction with healthcare operations/healthcare field required.

  • Knowledge or ability to learn and practice trauma-informed principles and practices
  • Bilingual English/Spanish a plus

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: 3 communications and marketing staff

MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT TO BE USED: Computers/laptops/pads and similar devices, calculators, copier/printer/scanner/fax machines, telephones and a variety of other office/clerical equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS: May require occasional evening or weekend hours, extensive local travel, and occasional travel out of town. Need a driver license and reliable vehicle for transportation.
