POSITION PURPOSE:

The Director of Long Term Care directs and organizes the activities of the Long Term Care (LTC) Facility. The major purpose of this position is to insure the effective and efficient provision of comprehensive services to residents of the South Peninsula Long Term Care Facility and to maintain the Facility in compliance with State and Federal Regulations. The Director will promote the optimal functioning of each resident in a home-like atmosphere. S/he will support and role model South Peninsula Hospitals (SPH) values and behaviors that reflect our culture of safety, quality, and a healthy work environment.

NATURE AND SCOPE:

The position of Director of Long Term Care is a management position. The individual in this position understands and supports the overall goals of the administration of SPH/LTC and coordinates the activities of the Long Term Care Facility to assist in accomplishing those goals. This individual must be self-directed and willing to accept the responsibility of directing the activities within the Facility. The Director of Long Term Care is responsible for implementation of policies and procedures, and maintaining and improving a level of care in accordance with State and Federal regulations. The Director of Long Term Care reports to the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO).

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:

This individual should have extensive knowledge of computer software applications to include: Medical Information systems, word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation software (MSWord, Excel, Publisher, Power Point). Able to operate such general office machines as a, personal computer, adding machine by touch, FAX and photocopier. Work requires continual attention to detail in composing, typing, data entry and proofing materials; establishing priorities and meeting deadlines. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands. Speaking, listening, and reasonable writing skills are required to communicate with professional staff, to direct the work activity within the department, and to communicate with personnel, residents and the residents families/legal representatives at all levels. Mathematical ability is required for preparation of budgets and reports; and to calculate drug dosages.

EDUCATION / TRAINING / EXPERIENCE:

Education:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing is required; a Masters degree in a related field is preferred.
Work Experience:
A minimum of 3 years of experience in a long term care setting, with one year of management experience required.

Licenses and Certifications:
Must be a registered nurse licensed in the State of Alaska.

Must maintain active BLS certification.

ENVIRONMENT:

South Peninsula Hospital is a combination 22-bed Critical Access Hospital (CAH) and 28-bed nursing home located at the southern end of the Kenai Peninsula. The position requires a moderate amount of walking, standing, sitting and the ability to lift 35 pounds. Persons in this position are exposed to infectious diseases, including all types of blood borne pathogens, muscle strains, falls, and needle stick injuries. Generally, physical demands are moderate and most work is performed inside. Work hours may be varied.
