JOB SUMMARY

Our facility is seeking a Director of Nursing with excellent management and organizational skills to be responsible for the direction of nursing services. He/she must communicate with staff and ensure that facility policies and procedures are followed while supervising direct resident care. You must be a registered nurse (RN), ideally with prior supervisory experience at a skilled nursing facility. Our perfect candidate has a passion for helping patients, improving staff performance, and delivering consistent patient care at our facility.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Provide "on call" services to nursing staff per schedule determined by Administrator.
  • While "on call" be available via telephone at all times and be able to report to facility within thirty (30) minutes if necessary.
  • Be knowledgeable and maintain departmental compliance with state/federal regulations and facility policies and procedures.
  • Develop and implement nursing policies and procedures.
  • Formulate and implement improvement plans based off of review of facility Quality Indicators.
  • Recruitment, retention, and training of licensed nursing staff.
  • Provide an orientation period to all new licensed nursing staff and ensure competency prior to releasing them from orientation period.
  • Provide twelve (12) hours of educational in-service to department annually.
  • Initiate and document thorough investigations on all allegations of abuse.
  • Report all reportable incidents to required agencies within required time frame.
  • Participate in annual inspections of facility by the Department of Health Services.
  • Scan out all central supply items used for each resident.
  • Manage nursing staff schedules and workloads

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

  • Medical terminology.
  • Safety rules, policies and procedures, infection prevention and control procedures.
  • Facility emergency/disaster response and evacuation procedures.
  • Resident Rights and identifying abuse and/or neglect.

Skill in:

  • Use and care of equipment, tools and materials used in resident care activities.
  • Working independently to complete daily activities according to work schedule.
  • Following and maintaining safety standards.
  • Following and effectively communicating verbal and written instructions.
  • Operating a computer utilizing a variety of commonly used and specialized software applications.

Ability to:

  • Work more than eight (8) hours per day and/or forty (40) hours per week when required.
  • Work under high stress for extended period of times.
  • Maintain high workload while meeting required deadlines.
  • Identify when a situation cannot be handled and know when to ask for help.
  • Be sensitive to residents families and respond in a professional manner.
  • Adjust communication style based off of audience such as physicians, associate personnel, licensed nursing staff, nursing assistants, residents, and visitors.
  • Know your scope of practice and always operate within it.
  • Assume charge of personnel and clients assigned to your area.
  • Temporarily work in positions requiring a RN as necessary and when directed by supervisor.
  • Adhere to the Arizona State Board of Nursing Rules and Nurse Practice Act.
  • Use diagnostic equipment.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with associate personnel, residents and resident family members.
  • Read and write clearly.
  • Understand and follow, quickly and accurately, oral and written instructions.
  • Maintain confidentiality and work under pressure in a dynamic environment with changing demands and priorities.
  • Comply with facility policies and procedures.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to bear weight and lift 100 pounds or more.
  • Requires constant physical activities including standing, walking, lifting, bending, stooping, pulling, stretching, turning, grasping and reaching.
  • Visual acuity to determine the accuracy, thoroughness and quality of work assigned.
  • Aural acuity to receive detailed information through oral communication, often from persons with speech impairment.
  • Safety-sensitive position pursuant to A.R.S. 23-493.

REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

  • Must be a graduate of a state approved school of nursing.
  • Must have a current Arizona Nursing License or a current license from a compact license state.
  • Must hold a current Arizona State Board nursing license and must maintain license renewal in accordance with the standards of the State Board of Nursing.

SPECIAL JOB REQUIREMENT(S)

  • Attend mandatory nursing meetings and continuing education classes that are designated mandatory.
  • Obtain/maintain Arizona Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Card at employees expense.
  • Obtain/maintain CPR Certification.
  • Obtain a COVID-19 vaccine or exemption
  • Complete annual Tuberculosis Testing.
  • Complete required 12 hours of annual in-service training.
  • Mandated federal, state, and local communicable disease testing as required.
