Reports to: CEO

Status: Exempt

JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for the overall operation of the Rehabilitation Services Department in a hospital and out-patient clinics. This position assures the quality of patient care delivery in Physical Therapy, Occupation Therapy and Speech-Language Pathology services provided by the department. The Director of Rehab Services acts as a liaison with various hospital departments and administration. The Director provides leadership and professional growth opportunities for department staff. This position is responsible for departmental financial planning, budget preparation, and operations.

Essential Functions

1. Management Duties: Participate as part of the hospital Management Team and attend other committees and meetings as requested. Hire, orient, motivate, discipline, evaluate, and as necessary recommend termination of staff members in compliance with applicable HR policies, to ensure continuity in patient care and compliance with EEO laws and regulations. Ensure timely completion of orientation period and annual performance evaluations. Directly supervise department support staff to ensure schedules and shifts are adequate. Follow up with support staff as appropriate to acknowledge individual excellence and take action to address behavior and performance issues. Ensure chain-of-command is properly informed of department status and needs. Reviews and investigates patient, therapist, and employee complaints. Follows established policy and protocol on reporting requirements. Conduct regular department staff meetings. Ensure equipment necessary to meet patient care needs is available and in working order. Coordinate department purchasing including responsibility for maintaining stock levels, storage, and organization of items.

2.Fiscal Responsibilities: Work with CFO to develop a reasonable budget, including staffing analysis for therapists, assistants, and support staff. Operate the department within the budgeted parameters and justify variance in all expense categories for each budget section as requested. Monitor payroll reports and staff timecards, prepare justification of OT when requested. Prepare reports and compile statistical data related to department productivity, as requested.

Assist Finance Department with preparation and justification of department capital expenditure budgets. Communicates to staff the need to be cost conscious and monitors compliance.

3. Regulatory and Quality Assurance Responsibilities: Represents the department in the hospitals quality improvement program and assure the implementation and ongoing process improvement programs in the department. Prepare QI data as requested and ensure data is submitted monthly to QA Nurse and reported quarterly. Ensure department is in perpetual state of readiness and prepared for site visits or surveys from state and/or federal regulatory agencies. Monitor customer service satisfaction and work to resolve any issues. Adhere to health system guidelines regarding complaint or incident reporting and ensure all department staff are familiar with expectations. Ensure maintenance and implementation of departmental policy and procedures.

4. Community and Public Relations: Represent the department within the community and within the healthcare system. Work with Admin Rep to plan and implement outreach activities and objectives. Promote good public relations in the community.

5. Additional Responsibilities: *Assist with special projects and other assignments as requested by hospital administration. * Participate in orientation and in-service training opportunities available through the hospital and conduct or arrange for department specific orientation and in-service training for department staff * Complete all annual mandatory training and certification requirements. *Attend continuing education opportunities appropriate to responsibilities. * As a licensed therapist, perform the duties of a therapist as outlined in the specific job description for the discipline, when staffing levels demand. *Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Master of Science degree or higher in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy or Speech-Language Pathology

Proven leadership ability with at least two (2) years experience as a clinician in an inpatient or outpatient rehabilitation program.

Minimum of one (1) year experience in a management position.

Demonstrated organizational ability to plan and supervise the services and activities of department.

Knowledge of accreditation standards and compliance requirements.

Excellent supervisory and interpersonal skills.

Current CA Physical Therapist License, Occupation Therapy License, or Speech-Language Pathology.

Required to push/pull and lift light objects less than 50 lbs. Occasionally required to push/pull and lift more than 50 lbs.

Required to perform simple motor skills such as standing, walking, writing and use of various types of therapeutic and office equipment.

Required to walk, stand, and sit for long periods of time.

Ability to work with others and to perform a variety of assigned duties.
