The Medical Dosimetrist is responsible for designing treatment plans and carrying out mathematically accurate calculations for the delivery of radiation treatments based on the radiation oncologist's prescribed course of radiation therapy. The Medical Dosimetrist, along with the radiation oncologist and medical physicist, will construct treatment plans that meet the prescription written by the oncologist, ensuring that radiation delivered will not affect healthy surrounding tissue. These treatment plans not only include the use of radiation, but also involve the use of radioactive elements during brachytherapy procedures. The Medical Dosimetrist I works closely with the radiation therapists in the implementation of the prescribed plan. The Medical Dosimetrist I must have an outstanding knowledge base in human anatomy and physiology, tumor pathology, radiobiology, radiation dose calculations and terminology, computer applications and technology, and dosimetry techniques and procedures required to carry out the prescribed treatment plan.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited dosimetry program; Board Certified Medical Dosimetrist (MDCB) OR Board eligible upon graduation. Licensure must be obtained within one year of graduation.
