Early Head Start Teacher Apprentice

Job Description:

EARLY HEAD START APPRENTICE: Under the supervision of the Center Director and CDA Trainer, responsible for assisting in the Early Head Start classroom and completing all coursework and tasks required to obtain the infant-toddler Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be 18 years old, possess a valid driver's license and have graduated from high school or equivalent. Must complete 45 hour Early Care, Education, and Family Support Entry Level Course prior to or within 30 days of employment. Successful completion of drug and TB skin test. Criminal background check and references also required. Ability to travel to various Early Head Start sites.

JOB CHARACTERISTICS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This is a professional position, which requires organizational and communication skills, as well as judgment, tact and diplomacy in contacts with Early Head Start and Head Start employees, community residents, parents and local government agencies. Strict adherence is required to all regulations concerning confidentiality.

Good general health and ability to lift and carry 55 lbs. are essential. Background investigation to include fingerprinting. TB Skin Test and Physical may be required every five years. Frequent travel is required by employee and proof of satisfactory car insurance is required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Not Inclusive):

  • (In classroom)Assist in carrying out developmentally appropriate classroom environment and experiences for infants and toddlers based on early care and education principles and practice and Head Start Philosophy.
  • (During completion of CDA coursework and other CDA requirements) Attend and engage in all CDA training activities and complete all CDA requirements (e.g., CDA portfolio, CDA observation, CDA exam).
  • Log in and check the online EHS TAP monitoring plan at least once a week to ensure the monitoring document is accurate.
  • Participate in ongoing mentoring sessions with a YDI assigned teacher-mentor.
  • Always maintain a professional attitude and adhere to all health, safety and supervision policies and procedures to promote workplace safety.Represent YDI Head Start Parents, Agency Representatives, Community Participants, and visitors.
  • Other duties as assigned.
