Under the supervision of the Workforce Manager the Success Coordinator provides mentoring and support to apprentices and incumbents employees of the Early Care & Education Apprentices. Under the direction of the Workforce Manager, the Coordinator contributes to the development and implementation of the on-the-job training and teacher preparation program including providing support services such as childcare, tutoring, information and referral and other resources for participants. in the instruction of children, and other housekeeping duties and responsibilities as needed. The incumbent may be assigned to various classrooms/centers/bus routes as deemed necessary for program operations. This position is designed as a career pathway for prospective students, community members and Head Start parents.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver high quality programming that achieves the educational, administrative and

service delivery goals of the apprentice program and MAAC.

  • Support apprentice program enrollment and participant progress, including

monitoring attendance and grade reports each semester.

  • Document students academic information which may include test scores, attendance

and tardy records, support services, class schedules, progress report grades, grade

deficiencies, appropriate email address, FERPA forms, transcripts, educational plans,

etc.

  • Establish rapport with apprentices and serve as a guide, encouraging them to do well

academically while balancing their work/family life.

  • Establish relationships with internal and external partners to improve the

apprentices on-the-job training experiences, coordinating site visits and

coaching/mentoring services.

  • Provide soft skills training that includes: appropriate classroom behaviors, dressing

for success and being responsible.

  • Meet regularly with the college instructors, school counselors, and others to address

students and/or programs needs.

  • Contribute to the development and administration of existing and potential

workforce Initiatives (e.g., grant proposals, quarterly reports, program budgets,

tracking invoices and expenditure).

  • Communicate and share Workforce initiatives within MAAC, program partners, related service providers, colleges, workforce boards and others.
  • Identify innovative ways to collaborate with all program areas to best meet the needs

of students and children.

  • Participate in and/or coordinate workforce events including hiring fairs, recruitment

campaigns, conference/college presentations, graduations, etc.

  • Support registration of apprentices with the Division of Apprenticeship Standards

(DAS) & the Department of Labor (DOL).

  • Organize apprentice events that may include commencements, orientations and

wellness days.

  • Support the design and implementation of the MAACs apprenticeship model,

including the evaluation and development of procedures and policies.

  • Document and prepare expenditure requests for apprentice program supplies,

services and participants.

  • Coordinate and document the delivery of materials for apprentices, such as

textbooks, computers, etc.

  • Participate in Department and other MAAC meetings and trainings.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.
  • Attends all workshops and meetings as deemed necessary by the supervisor.
  • Attends all required staff and parent meetings and activities, if requested.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Knowledge of:

  • Apprenticeship Standards Preferred
  • Experience working with Higher Educations and navigating community college resources.
  • Workforce Development & Career Pathway Model

Ability to:

  • Assist in creating and maintaining a safe learning environment for adults and others; work effectively with internal and external partners, parents, family, and community; demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills; demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of culturally and ethnically diverse groups.
  • Must be available to work some evenings and weekends
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) speaking, reading, and writing preferred.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATION

  • Bachelors in Sociology, Human Services or equivalent or similar education required.
  • Valid CPR, First Aid, and Food Handlers certifications must be obtained within the first two months (2) of employment and maintained throughout employment (paid, designated trainingavailable through MAAC). In the event employees do not attend the scheduled training, they must obtain the cards through outside resources and costs will not be reimbursed. The certifications must be obtained and maintained within prescribed timelines.

HEALTH STATUS

Must have a physical examination, TB clearance and a drug screen by a doctor/clinic designated by MAAC as well as immunization records for influenza*, pertussis and measles as required by state and federal regulations prior to the first day of employment.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this class, an employee is regularly required to stand, walk and sit, talk or hear both in person and by telephone, uses hands to finger, handle or feel objects or controls, reach with hands and arms. An employee also is regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch or crawl, climb or balance and lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Mental Demands

While performing the duties of this class, the employee is regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret information; analyze and solve problems; observe and interpret people and situations; use basic math; learn and apply new information or skills; work under intensive deadlines and interact with MAAC management, administrators, staff, teachers, parents, family members, children and others encountered in the course of work.

BACKGROUND CLEARANCE

All positions are subject to a background/education check, DMV check, NSOR, exclusion and debarment checks prior to hire and periodically throughout employment as required by various funding sources.

Note: California Start law requires background criminal checks on anyone who works in a licensed childcare facility who is not a client. Must have or obtain a current criminal background check clearance, signed criminal record statement, and signed Acknowledgement to Report Child Abuse form prior to the first day of employment.

TRANSPORTATION

Must have and maintain a valid California Drivers License, daily use of a personal, insured vehicle, and have and maintain a motor vehicle driving record acceptable to MAACs insurance carrier. Incumbents will be enrolled in the California DMV Pull Program.
