Job Description

Position Summary:
This position oversees a Child Care Facility including all staff, children, legal requirements and application of association policies. Performs a variety of duties as it relates to the responsibility, safety, development, supervision and management of the children in the preschool program. Supervises teaching staff and ensures implementation of program curriculum in the classroom. Provides a quality early childhood education environment to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA core values; honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

Essential Functions:
1. Oversee the daily operation of the program including but not limited to: daily schedules, developmentally appropriate activities, staff oversight and staff schedules, coordination of parent communication and parent conferences.
2. Responsible for program development, planning and supervision in accordance with California Department of Education Title 5 requirements, partner agencies such as, Los Angeles Universal Preschool and Los Angeles County Office of Education, as well as YMCA standards.
3. Responsible for keeping site and program in compliance with State of California Community Care Licensing Division, Title 22 Regulations; correcting any deficiencies in the required manner, forwarding all inspection notices to supervisor.
4. Hire, train, develop and evaluate all staff to ensure compliance with schedule and core job functions, primarily the health and safety of the children in the program. Provide oversight of all administrative records and financial management, curriculum planning and implementation, as well as community/ public relations. Ensures that master teacher is able to act as the Site Director in their absence.
5. Responsible for accurate counts on all children that attend as well as following up with absent children.
6. Verify that staff is conducting a health and safety checks of all children at the time of arrival to the program.
7. Attend all staff meetings, trainings and other YMCA functions as required by Supervisor. Organize and run volunteer programs such as Parent Advisory Committees and fundraisers.
8. Ensure the program has necessary supplies and equipment; report any critical issues to their direct supervisor.
9. Support teachers with developing weekly lesson plans that are age appropriate and consistent with the mission of the YMCA. Assist staff in completion of childrens assessments, specifically Desired Results Developmental Profile in addition to Ages and Stages Questionnaire. Supervisor ensures that childrens assessments are then used by teachers to conduct parent conferences in order to collaborate with families to support the childs development.
10. Present relevant subject matter to teaching staff; utilizing variety of methods and techniques such as lecture, discussion and supervised role-play in a constructive tone.
11. Maintain open lines of communication with participant, parents, staff and supervisor.
12. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
1. Must be 18 years of age or older. High school diploma or equivalent required.
2. College degree preferred and/or units required. 12 college units completed in Childhood Education/Child Development units and/or related courses required, including six units in core courses of Child Human Growth and Development and Child, Family & Community or Child & Family Relations. 3 units in Supervision/Administration of a Child Development Program also required.
3. Minimum of 4 years experience working with and supervising children in a childcare center. With an exception of: 2 year experience required with an AA Degree, and 1 year with a BA degree.
4. Current Pediatric CPR and First Aide Certification and Health & Safety Class required within first 3 months of employment.
5. Immunization record: Influenza or waiver, Tdap(Pertussis), and MMR(Measles)
6. CDSS Mandated Reported (AB1207) training required within first month of employment.
7. Criminal Clearance: including fingerprints
8. Health Exam Screening with Neg TB test and Negative Drug test screening.
9. Complete ALL required online training(s).
10. Previous experience with diverse populations.
11. Ability to plan, organize, and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.

Ability to manage a school of 60-100 families


Working Conditions:

Environmental Factors: Indoor and outdoor facilities (e.g. childcare and recreational sites); exposure to heat, cold, potentially hazardous chemicals, toxic materials; work on slippery or uneven surfaces. Noise level is usually moderate.
