Salary: $2,813.31 - $3,994.90 Biweekly
$73,146.00 - $103,867.32 Annually
Salary Information: Offering salary will be made between the minimum to midpoint of the posted salary range for this position, based on qualifications and experience. Employees may progress through the full salary range, subject to their successful performance and annual budget approval.
Under the direction of the Planning Director, performs professional level economic development planning work involving research, fiscal analysis, project development and program implementation on a variety of land-use and economic data, local and regional growth and labor, and long-range planning for economic development and business development within the Community.
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Business or Public Administration, or a closely related field, and four years of progressively responsible experience in an economic development, finance, real estate, and business or related field ; OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work. A master's degree and previous Tribal Government work experience in this type of position is preferred. Must have a valid Arizona Driver's License and be able to meet the Community's insurance carrier requirements. Must successfully complete a background check.
Examples of Duties:
  • Serves as project manager for complex planning and development projects. Analyzes and evaluates business development plans, sponsorship requests, land purchase proposals, and ensures due diligence.
  • Promotes the community's business locations and generates qualified prospects to improve the business climate.
  • Performs related research of economic activity and trends; projects development and estimates cost proposals.
  • Performs long-range economic development planning, assists Community members in small business development.
  • Seeks alternative funding sources through grant preparation and acquisition for projects.
  • Researches data resources and performs specific planning tasks to determine land development uses and fair market values; edits and revises lease documents as needed.
  • Prepares written project analysis for land use, economic and marketing opportunities and makes recommendations for action.
  • Negotiate and administer leases under the Ak-Chin Leasing Act of 2013 which comports with the HEARTH Act, streamline procedures for environmental review to encourage economic self-sufficiency, increase business activity and employment within the Community.
  • Participates and provides assistance to various boards, tribal enterprises, and committees, as assigned by Director.
  • Answers inquiries from, and provides assistance to, the public regarding development proposals and projects and other current Community planning activities.
  • Drafts and revises a variety of reports related to local and regional economics; evaluates community resources and feasibility of economic sustainability.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with departments and outside agencies to assess current economic status and growth opportunities.
  • Monitors compliance of economic progress and development to established goals and objectives.
  • Performs special projects and other duties of a similar nature or level as assigned.

  • Knowledgeable of current economic, development, demographic, and marketing trends in the regional area.
  • Knowledge of the HEARTH Act.
  • Ability to determine priorities in performing a variety of marketing and promotional related tasks.
  • Ability to research and interpret statistical information and present information clearly and accurately.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced office, to meet multiple deadlines, and handle multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member.
  • Ability to respond consistently with tact, composure, and courtesy when dealing with others.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality both within and outside of the office.
