Primary Purpose:

Maintain, repair and install electrical systems, services and equipment for the district. Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all electrical fixtures and systems in district facilities.
Performs management of specific projects and related duties as directed by the Maintenance
Coordinator.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

High school diploma or GED
Valid Texas drivers license
Unrestricted Journeyman Electrician License

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of crafts used in building repair including electrical circuits, wiring and operating principles of motors
Knowledge of local electrical codes and compliance
General knowledge of other crafts used in building repair and maintenance
Ability to read blueprints, schematics and written reference material
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
Ability to perform mathematical calculations
Ability to diagnose and resolve problems
Skilled in use of hand tools, power tools and equipment
Ability to conduct preventative maintenance of electrical and communication equipment and systems.
Ability to develop effective work methods
Knowledge of computer systems, email and software.

Experience:

Five years experience in electrical field.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Facilities Maintenance and Repair

Perform electrical maintenance, repair, installation and wiring of electrical fixtures, power equipment and components of machinery and equipment following electrical codes, manuals, specifications, schematics and blueprints
Plan proposed installation, install and troubleshoot different types of electrical circuits, motors, relays, switches, receptacles, thermostats and other systems. Pull wires and install breaker panels.

Install and connect power supply wiring, cables, conduit and electrical apparatus for machines and equipment in new and existing facilities following diagrams, schematics or blue prints
Test continuity of circuits to ensure compatibility and safety of components using testing instruments
Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble and install electrical conduit using rulers, measuring devices, hand tools, pipe threader and conduit bender
Diagnose and resolve electrical problems using the proper meters and other testing measures
Repair or recommend replacement of electrical appliances, including commercial ovens, ranges, steam tables, washers, dryers, etc
Operate such equipment as multimeter, ohmmeter, oscilloscope and testing equipment, soldering iron, wire puller, pipe bender and threader; hand and power tools (saw, drill, etc.)
Set up electrical outlets and run power as needed for special events
Maintain accurate records of materials and labor used
Respond to emergency situation; identify areas for priority attention; provide recommendation for resolving electrical problems
Inspect job upon completion and ensure areas are clean
Clean, maintain and repair tools; instruments and equipment as required
Estimate cost of repair projects including labor, materials and other related costs.
Confers with supervisor and other staff regarding projects, workloads and project priorities

Safety

Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment
Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition.
Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
Participates in training and safety programs.
Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.

Project Management

Respond to after-hours emergency calls as needed.
Be on-call person on a rotating weekly calendar schedule

Other:

May perform other duties as assigned.

Equipment Used:

Computers, multimeter, ohmmeter, oscilloscope and testing equipment; soldering iron; wire puller; pipe bender and threader, saw, drill, trencher, jackhammer, concrete saw, ladder, and other hand and power tools. Light truck or van.

Working Conditions:

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Continual walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching and heavy lifting and carrying. Work on ladders, scaffolding and around machinery with moving parts.
Work in tiring and uncomfortable positions around electrical power lines, outside and inside.
Exposure to extreme temperatures. Frequent district-wide travel.
