Job Description

Arizona State University is hiring for the Department of Defense-funded Southwest Advanced Prototyping (SWAP) Hub located at MacroTechnology Works in ASU’s Research Park. One of eight national hubs, SWAP Hub is part of a larger ecosystem supporting the rapid growth in innovation and microelectronics in the western United States. SWAP Hub works with industry and higher education partners to develop human, physical and digital capabilities and maximize the Department of Defense’s microelectronics security priorities.


ASU’s SWAP Hub is seeking applications for a full-time engineer in the area of hardware and software security and trust. The Hub’s project performers are committed to designing, testing, and validating the security and trust of microelectronics from IP design through fabrication, packaging, testing and distribution.

SWAP Hub's funding requires that candidates for this position are United States citizens or a permanent resident, due to ITAR/Export Control and clearance level activity.

 

Salary Range

$87,363 - $120,500 per year; DOE

Essential Duties

  • Identify potentially unwanted behavior and patterns of abuse on the platforms take steps to moderate and restrict this behavior
  • Fight against threats to user safety (account takeover, publicly leaked tokens, privileged access abuse, fraud, etc.)
  • Build and implement near real-time detection and prevention capabilities that protect platform and customers
  • Build tooling to detect and prevent risks to user data, including client-side attacks and unintentional data leaks
  • Research and monitoring emerging abuse trends, techniques, tactics, and procedures
  • Craft novel security detection rules and alerts and create associated incident response runbooks and tools
  • Develop risk scoring algorithms to classify potentially risky behavior or activity on platforms
  • Have a direct impact on users and the overall trust of platforms
  • Participate in incident response efforts

 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field AND ten (10) years of engineering or related experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

 

Desired Qualifications

  • 10 years of experience with Very High-Speed Integrated Circuit Program Hardware Description Language/Verilog and Register-transfer level design
  • 5 years of experience with Field Program Gate Arrays, Systems on Chips, embedded systems and Linux OS
  • 5 years of experience with programming languages including C and Python
  • 5 years of experience using commercial tools, e.g., Cadence, for automated physical design from synthesis, place and route to Graphic Design System II
  • 5 years of experience with laboratory-based, hands-on experiments with oscilloscopes, temperature chambers, and other types of bench top equipment, as well as setting up networks, taking measurements and carrying out data analyses
  • Experience with artificial intelligence/machine learning is a plus

 

Working Environment

  • This is a first shift position 0800-1700, Monday-Friday. Occasional off shift work may be required to manage emergencies
  • Regular activities require ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks at one time, manage conflict, work well in a team environment and operate independently, and communicate effectively to exchange accurate information
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts
  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office and laboratory settings subject to extended periods of being in a stationary position, walking moderate distances to perform work functions, and operating computer and other office productivity machinery
  • Some activities will entail the need for frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to clearly communicate and exchange accurate information to perform essential duties
