Job Description

Grand Canyon University's Emergency Preparedness team is currently seeking an Emergency Preparedness Coordinator.

Responsibilities:

  • Implements, and coordinates the Universitys Emergency Preparedness program, including emergency preparedness plans and procedures, exercises and after-action-reviews, training and education, and emergency support functions.
  • Prepares policies and procedures for approval and assists in implementation related to emergency conditions such as infectious disease outbreaks, natural disasters, technological hazards, and human-caused emergencies, utilizing the most current information from the CDC, State Health and the Maricopa County Public Health Department.
  • Conducts regular hazard vulnerability assessments/ risk analysis to determine the facilitys risk for natural (e.g. weather related), technological (e.g., nuclear power plant emergencies or hazardous materials spills), human-caused (e.g., active shooter or hostage situations), infectious disease outbreaks and other disasters and prepares overall report for review by management.
  • Maintains mechanisms to collect, review, and track data required by local, state, and federal entities which are consistent with the facilitys policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate activities between internal departments such as Public Safety, Health Center, Residence Life, Housing Operations, Facilities, EHS and Operations Center for sustaining campus operations and essential services to students, faculty and staff.
  • Coordinates infectious disease support activities such as disease monitoring, contact tracing, quarantine and isolation operations and overall mitigation strategy.
  • Creates and provides weekly situational reports for internal and external distribution.
  • Identifies and escalates issues to the Emergency Preparedness Manager.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in emergency management, public administration, business management, or related field.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in supporting activities of real-world response within Emergency Operations Center (EOC), Incident Management Team (IMT) or other similar response capacity.
  • Adult CPR with First Aid and Automatic External Defibrillation (AED) certification, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of employment.
  • Must have valid current Arizonas driver license and clean driving record.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background investigation, including fingerprinting.
  • Familiarity with Homeland Security and FEMA National Response Framework guidelines and recommended protocols
  • Knowledge of current emergency preparedness and continuity of operations best practices.
  • Able to present response-related information and plans in a succinct and understandable manner to a diverse community.
  • Understanding of importance of cultural sensitivity and how to effectively interact with a highly diverse campus community.
  • Skill in fostering effective working relationships with others.
  • Proven ability to demonstrate a high degree of personal integrity and emotional maturity.
  • Good planning and organization skills.
  • Ability to assess critical or emergent situations and determine appropriate course of action.
  • Demonstrated analytical, critical thinking, problem identification and resolution skills.
  • Knowledge of emergency communication systems, related computer systems, and applications.
  • Ability and willingness to respond to emergencies on an on-call 24/7 basis. Able to work extended hours during emergency situations. In the event of evacuation, the incumbent may be required to remain to perform needed services.
